Manchester’s Rae Bedke finished second overall, leading the Lady Squires to a second-place finish as a team in the Tippecanoe Valley Invitational cross country meet Saturday. Bedke covered the course in 19:51.6, behind Jasmine Early of team champ Columbia City. Tahnee Fuentes took sixth, Jaelyn Webb 14th, Clara Burdette 23rd and Katie Baker 25th for the Lady Squires.
Abby Steffensmeier scored two goals, and Brianne Buhrt brought home the game winner in Warsaw’s 3-1 Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer win at Concord Thursday. Steffensmeier opened the Warsaw scoring midway through the first half off passes from Brenna Shipley and Sydney Wiedeman.
Sweeping both doubles matches and winning two of three in singles, the Tippecanoe Valley’s boys tennis team beat visiting Triton 4-1 Tuesday. Manchester junior quarterback Hayes Sturtsman found classmate Devon Rooney for touchdowns of 69 and 34 yards in the Squires’ 28-14 loss at No. 12 Wabash (Class 2A, AP poll) Friday night in the Three Rivers Conference opener for both teams. The Squires carried a 7-0 lead into the second quarter, but Wabash quarterback Sammy Hipskind threw a pair of touchdown passes of his own to bring the Apaches back.

The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings won twice to take second place in the Manchester Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday. The host Lady Squires finished third in the four-team, round-robin tourney. Valley beat Manchester and Tri-Central, both in straight sets, and lost to Lakewood Park Christian, which won the tournament for the fourth straight year. Manchester beat Tri-Central in straight sets, and took Lakewood Park to three games before falling.
LaVille’s Ethan Kertai scored three touchdowns in the third quarter, and four overall, in the Lancers’ 55-18 win over visiting Triton Friday night in Hoosier North Athletic Conference play.
Manchester junior Lydia Little posted a 44 for medalist honors, pacing the Lady Squires to a win over Whitko, Tippecanoe Valley and North Miami at Peru Municipal Golf Course Thursday. The Lady Squires’ team score of 190 bested Whitko’s 245, Valley’s 246 and North Miami’s 331.

Lakeland Christian Academy dropped its boys soccer season opener to visiting Elkhart Christian Academy 4-0 Tuesday night. The Cougars will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to South Bend to take on Community Baptist Christian School at 5 p.m. Friday.
