NORTH MANCHESTER – The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings won twice to take second place in the Manchester Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday. The host Lady Squires finished third in the four-team, round-robin tourney. Valley beat Manchester and Tri-Central, both in straight sets, and lost to Lakewood Park Christian, which won the tournament for the fourth straight year. Manchester beat Tri-Central in straight sets, and took Lakewood Park to three games before falling. Manchester will host Wawasee in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Lady Tiger VB 4th In Mishawaka Tourney MISHAWAKA – Warsaw’s volleyball team finished fourth in the eight-team Mishawaka Invitational Saturday. The Lady Tigers beat Elkhart Memorial 25-10, 25-20; lost to No. 2 Carmel 25-14, 25-17; lost to Lafayette Harrison 25-23, 25-17 and lost to Mishawaka Marian 25-23, 25-11. Nikki Parrett and Alexie Day had 22 kills each for the Tigers in the tournament, with Hanna Leach adding 18 kills. Erin Peugh had 53 digs, and Day added 27 more. Kacy Bragg had 43 assists and Parrett led the Lady Tigers with seven aces. Warsaw will have a rematch with Memorial, this time in Northern Lakes Conference play, at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in Elkhart. Whitko Splits 4 Matches In Westview Tourney TOPEKA – Whitko went 2-2 in the Westview Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday, beating Eastside and Bremen while losing to Concord and Westview. Senior Haley Yohe had 70 assists in the tournament. Kaity Reed had 30 kills, 29 digs and nine aces, with Brianna Tackett adding 20 kills, four blocks and six aces. The Lady Wildcats resume Three Rivers Conference play Thursday against North Miami in Denver.
Lakeland Christian Falls WINONA LAKE – Cami Dahms had 11 digs, and Kyla Kohler had 11 assists in Lakeland Christian Academy’s 25-19, 25-13, 26-24 loss to the visiting Michiana Crusaders Saturday. The Lady Cougars host Culver Academies at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Manchester Bests Rochester In Tournament NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester girls soccer team took a 3-0 win over Rochester in the opening round of the Manchester Invitational Saturday. The championship and consolation games were rained out, as was the entire boy portion of the tournament. The boys soccer team will host Tippecanoe Valley at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and the Lady Squires will kickoff in Denver against North Miami at the same time.
Whitko Downs Maconaquah BUNKER HILL – Whitko senior Leighandra Goodman scored the game-winning goal in the second half in the visiting Lady Wildcats’ 3-2 win over Maconaquah in Three Rivers Conference girls soccer play Saturday. Julia Seifert and Riley Insley scored goals in the first half for Whitko; both were assisted by Charlotte Cripe. The Lady Wildcats travel to Rochester today; making up a rained out match from Aug. 24.
Wildcats Fall To Braves BUNKER HILL – Austin Bernicky scored on an assist from Basle Trimmer in visiting Whitko’s 3-1 loss to Maconaquah Saturday. Whitko will host Central Noble at 5 p.m. today.
Valley, Whitko, LCA Run In Northfield Invite WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley’s girls team was sixth and the boys team was eighth in the Northfield Invitational cross country meet Saturday. Whitko and Lakeland Christian Academy sent runners but did not field full teams in the event. Whitko’s Sarah Walters was the top girls finisher from the Times-Union area, taking 15th place overall. Haley Hoover was the first runner across for Valley, taking 30th. On the boys side, Whitko’s Logan Busz was the top area finisher, taking 26th overall. Valley’s Jared Mikel was 37th, and LCA’s Rye Stevens was 62nd. Valley and LCA will send runners to the Manchester Invitational on Saturday morning. Rainouts Saturday Several high school athletic events were rained out on Saturday. Triton’s junior varsity and junior high football games were moved to this evening, with the combined seventh and eighth grade team kicking off at 5 p.m., followed by the junior varsity game at 6:30 Triton and Wawasee were rained out in the NorthWood Invitational cross country meet Saturday. No make-up date has been announced. Wawasee’s girls soccer match with visiting Concord was moved to 5:30 p.m. today and will be a varsity-only match. Warsaw’s boys soccer match with visiting Penn was postponed, with no make-up date announced.
