Soccer Roundup: Rivera’s Goal Lead Lady Tigers To 1-0 WinFORT WAYNE – Mariah Rivera scored in the 10th minute off a free kick by Breck Jackson, and the Warsaw Lady Tigers made it stand up in a 1-0 girls soccer win over host Homestead Thursday night. Warsaw head coach Peter Lucht said his team got the win, but wasn’t playing at its optimum level on offense. “Things were not firing on all cylinders for us offensively,” he said. “At times there was good effort, but some of the link-up play and connections that have enabled us to be successful this season were not there. “There was still a good effort given during stretches of the match, and at least defensively there was organization and discipline that lead to limited dangerous moments for the opponent. Congratulations to our defense for posting a shutout.” The Lady Tigers return to Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday at Elkhart Memorial.
Tigers Edge FW Blackhawk, 1-0 HUNTERTOWN – Warsaw’s Blake Burns scored on an assist by Andrew Mevis in the Tigers’ 1-0 win over Fort Wayne Blackhawk in the opening game of the Carroll Tournament Thursday. The Tigers take a 1-2-2 record into their next game in the tourney at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Squires Play To Tie NORTH MANCHESTER – Freshman Harley Kruschwitz scored twice in Manchester 2-2 tie with visiting Columbia City Thursday. Kruschwitz’s first goal came on an assist from Fermin Guerrero. in the first half. Caleb Stout got the assist on Kruschwitz’s second-half goal. Manchester also allowed an own-goal in the first half. Manchester’s junior varsity played to a scoreless tie with the Eagles. The Squires are now 2-1-1, and will travel to Rochester for a Three Rivers Conference match Tuesday.
Lady ‘Cats Fall, 1-0 GOSHEN – Bethany Christian scored in the first half in a 1-0 win over visiting Whitko Thursday. The Lady Wildcats will host Mississinewa at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Wawasee Shut Out SYRACUSE – Wawasee fell to 4-3 on the season after a 7-0 loss to visiting Argos Thursday night. The Lady Warriors junior varsity also lost, 5-0, to the Lady Dragons. Next up for Wawasee is a Northern Lakes Conference match at Goshen Saturday.
Argos Blanks LCA WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian Academy didn’t get a shot on goal in a 5-0 loss at Argos Thursday. The Cougars (4-3) are off for a week in preparation for the Lancer Cup tournament In Lakeville Sept. 10.
