Trojans' Home Win Over Whitko Leads Roundup

BOURBON — The Triton boys tennis team successfully defended its home courts Thursday against Whitko.
Defeating the Whitko Wildcats 4-1, the Trojans won on both doubles courts, with Jeff Ross and Lucas Shafer winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and the tandem of Pete Kauffman and Seth Glingle getting a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.
Also for Triton, Dean Howdeshell moved up from No. 2 singles to No. 1, where he defeated Tyler Baugher 6-0, 7-5, while Jared Fisher got a 6-4, 6-7 (7), 11-9 win at No. 2 singles.
Whitko’s victory came at No. 3 singles, where Blake Castle defeated Jake Oldham 6-2, 6-1.
Triton is at Bethany Christian Saturday morning, while Whitko’s next match is Tuesday at home against Rochester.

The Manchester boys tennis team pulled off a 3-2 win at Huntington North Thursday. Manchester’s Connor Eichenauer  (No. 1) and Brayton Spann (No. 3) each got wins on the singles courts, while Riley Woods and Dalton Day won at No. 1 doubles. The 3-3 Squires travel to Whitko Thursday.

At Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart Thursday, the Warsaw girls golf team closed its Northern Lakes Conference regular season with a 177-240 win over Elkhart Memorial. On the par-35 course, Warsaw’s Nikki LaLonde was the medalist with a 42. The Lady Tigers finished out their NLC regular season at 6-1, while NorthWood was the top team at 7-0. Warsaw hosts Manchester Thursday then takes part in the NLC Championships on Sept. 8 at Bent Oak Golf Club in Elkhart.

The NorthWood girls golf team wrapped up a perfect Northern Lakes Conference regular season record Thursday at Syracuse’s Maxwelton Golf Club. Shooting a 182, NorthWood finished the NLC regular season at 7-0, as Wawasee shot a 185 and Northridge finished with a 206. NorthWood’s Heidi Morganthaler was the top golfer at the match, shooting a 38, while Wawasee’s Elizabeth Jackson had the second-best score with a 43. Wawasee will be at Swan Lake Country Club Saturday for the Culver Girls Academy Invitational.

The Triton girls golf team finished second at Thursday’s four-team match at Peru Municipal Golf Course. Caston came out on top at the par-36 course, shooting a 226, followed by Triton (230), Northfield (247) and North Miami (263). Triton’s Lizzy Erne was the medalist with a 49. The Lady Trojans host the Culver Girls Academy and LaVille at Rozella Ford Golf Club in Warsaw Thursday.

Southwood came out on top of the match, shooting a 195 while Huntington North shot a 198. Huntington North’s Maddie Kennedy shot a 41 on her home course, while Valley’s Allyson Ross shot a 50. Valley will be at Swan Lake Country Club in Plymouth Saturday for the Culver Girls Academy Invitational.

Lakeland Christian Academy had trouble contained Argos’ Damon Binkley Thursday night in Argos. The Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team battled back from a 2-set hole Thursday. After losing the first two sets to visiting Maconaquah, Valley went on to win the next three and the match, 19-25, 14-25, 25-20, 27-25, 15-13. In the victory, Kelsey Ball, Caylie Teel and Sara Alexander led the offensive attack, posting 15, 12 and 10 kills, respectively. The three also played strong defense, with Teel getting six blocks, while Alexander had five and Ball posted four. Valley will be at Saturday’s Tiger Spiker Invitational.
