Editor, Times-Union:I would like to respond to Janet Collins' letter titled "Capitalism."
Editor, Times-Union:I appreciate the fact that David Kolbe addresses comments, concerns and even accusations in letters to the editor.
In a previous "Between the Lines," I said it was important to read.I stressed the fact that we, as a society and as individuals, don't take enough time to read. Now I find out that if you live in Plain Township, you are almost hindered from reading at no cost. How so? Plain Township does not have a public library and to use the Warsaw library, you have to pay a fee of $16 for four months or $45 for a year. I currently live on the edge of Plain Township. I can afford to pay the money, if I have to.That's not the problem. But what about those who can't afford to pay $45? Those who can't pay that much are those who usually need to be reading more. As previously stated, the National Adult Literacy Survey found that more than 40 million Americans age 16 and over have significant literacy needs.Approximately 43 percent of people with the lowest literacy skills live in poverty and 70 percent have no job or part-time jobs.

- Enough Is Enough - Rodeheaver - A Poem For Christmas Says It All - True Meaning - Christ In Christmas Enough Is Enough Editor, Times-Union: It is sad that Tom Morehouse continues to devote so much time and effort on his Central time jihad. The number of letters he has written to this paper, the weekly anonymous call-ins to the local weekly publication, and the fact that he returned my questionnaire to me with instructions to send it to someone in Carmel since I only represent them, will not alter the fact that the time issue is over.

- Recycling - Endicott Murder - Zoning - Prosecutor - Supports Jarrette Recycling Editor, Times-Union I would like to respond to Mike Lewis' suggestion about our contract with the Solid Waste District of Kosciusko County that was published in the Times-Union, Wednesday, April 10. $150,000 per year sounds like a lot of money but let me break it down a little: $7,800 per year is returned back to the district for the building we lease per year; in 2001 we hauled away 3,239,470 pounds of recycled material to Elkhart to be processed so it can be reused again. Sure it's cheaper to landfill the material but that's not what solid waste districts are for, remember, we only have one landfill.
