Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:After reading Tuesday's paper concerning the animal abuse complainant sent to the prosecutor, my questions are:

- Chavez - Immigrants Chavez Editor, Times-Union: Your characterization of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (Dec.4 editorial) was both misleading and hypocritical. Offering economic incentives to attract political support should not strike anyone in this country as something new.Indeed, U.S.politicians have become expert at offering tax breaks, contracts, and other legislative plums to win votes - and contributions - from the nation's richest individuals and corporations.Where Chavez departs from the U.S.model is by directing his nation's largesse towards its poorest citizens, rather than its wealthiest.

Editor, Times-Union:Somewhere within the last two to three years, my wife began watching a few of these daytime talk show on the television.

Editor, Times-Union:Periodically, in one’s lifetime, you meet someone that leaves a lasting impression upon yourself, others they come in contact with and their community. I first met that individual over 30 years ago in the person of John Anglin.

Editor, Times-Union:In a recent Times-Union guest column, current Third District Congressman Marlin Stutzman stated, “In Congress, we have fought for and successfully ensured the two-year delay on the stifling medical device excise tax.”

Editor, Times-Union:Kosciusko REMC is part of the Indiana electric cooperative network that has historically fought for affordable electric rates for Hoosiers.

Editor, Times-Union: 04-11-2011, I got call from my nephew, the hospital was dismissing the mother and baby. Because the test was not back they were taking the baby. I ran back to the hospital to find a different woman with DCS and a police officer. They told me they were removing the child and placing her with a family for her own safety. I asked why I was not the first choice as I had a nice home and my wife and I could care for the child and meet her needs? She handed me a paper that was a court order for a 3 p.m. hearing to remove the child. I read the filing and found discrepancies as to where the child would be living and that the police were called because of the arrogant uncle and father.

Editor, Times-Union:After I read the article tonight about the Warsaw Tiger sectional game, I felt the need to express my thoughts about this team.

Editor, Times-Union:There have only been a handful of times in the last 230 years that ordinary citizens have banded together to alter the path of our nation. These moments, these triumphs have earned us a mark on our nation's noble timeline.

- Privilege Of Voting - Daniels' Integrity - Fisher Field - Stem Cell Research - Honored By Right To Life Privilege Of Voting Editor, Times-Union: We older citizens with good memories have a real advantage at election times.Let's remember that voting is a privilege! Let me remind your readers that: - One vote put Rutherford B.Hayes in as president of the United States. - One vote gave Adolph Hitler the leadership of his party in Germany.

Editor, Times-Union:It was interesting to read the articles last week from Natasha (trail graffiti), Shelley(stolen bikes), Bonnie (Careless Driver), and Fred (cycling).

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Pontius, I am so disappointed at you at the recent election. I went to bed that night with tears.

- Winona - Politicians Winona Editor, Times-Union: We put up unneeded stop signs because it will make it safer for our little children. On the other hand, we build a restaurant and restore a hotel that will sell liquor, making it unsafe for our little children (unless we vacate all of the streets in town so no one can drive). People are saying that it is OK to sell liquor because other things are being done now that were not allowed years ago (purchasing and use of cigarettes, swimming on Sundays, and cursing and swearing). That is real good reasoning, people! Is that how we bring our children up - they are going to do wrong anyhow, so why not allow it now? Let's not let one wrong be done because other wrongs are being done.

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Joshua, dude. In my last letter I was blunt, and I say what's on my mind. When I say honey or sweetheart, I say that with everybody.

Editor, Times-Union:With all the, "fluff and stuff" you have to put up with I wonder when you have time to get around to the, "basics" that really matter to to us ...

- Where's The Beef - Bible Principles - Shrine Thanks - Church Says Thanks - Singspiration Where's The Beef Editor, Times-Union "Where's the beef?" Just about everyone remembers that question, right? I found out where it went.Every Monday this paper has the flyers from area businesses that have items for sale.Almost everyone reads them and if you don't you're a fool for not reading them, because there are a lot of good bargains in them.

Editor, Times-Union:The only alcoholic beverages available in my early days were obtained at a "speakeasy," out in the boondocks away from town.

Editor, Times-Union:I remember reading about a gentleman who wanted to bring greater freedom for his country.

Editor, Times-Union:Throughout the Presidential debates, I am not hearing candidates answer questions with a firm and simple "No."

- Cheer Thanks - Use Headlights - WCDC Says Thanks - Unfairly Punished Cheer Thanks Editor, Times-Union: The WCHS Cheerleaders would like to send out a big thank-you to all the 5-12-year-olds that participated in this year's Little Tiger Cheerleading Camp.It was a huge success, all made in part by local businesses, mothers of WCHS Cheerleaders and of course who could forget all the parents that allowed their children to participate! Without you, the camp and the parade would not have been possible.Thank you.

Editor, Times-Union:Congress now has a window of opportunity to enact meaningful immigration reform before the next election cycle. It is important for us to grasp the issues, consider the solutions, and contact our elected representatives with our opinions.

Editor, Times-Union:I attended the meeting in December put on by the Chapman Lakes Environmental Watch regarding the creation of a sewer district around Chapman Lake.

Editor, Times-Union:Last summer, it was predicted that we would have a bad winter. Then they predicted a mild winter. So, we've had both.
