Editor, Times-Union: We older citizens with good memories have a real advantage at election times. Let's remember that voting is a privilege! Let me remind your readers that:
- One vote put Rutherford B. Hayes in as president of the United States.
- One vote gave Adolph Hitler the leadership of his party in Germany.
- One vote put one "thief" into Paradise with Jesus while the other voted to curse Jesus and ended up in ... Yes, every vote DOES count!
I talked to a fellow recently who was so disgusted with the "lying wonders" of politicians on TV that he is tempted not to even vote this November!
I hope your readers noticed the very important article about 10 days ago by the Scripps Howard correspondent, Clifford May, "Assessing the New Anti-Semitism." He reports that the American lawyer, Michael Tarazi, who advises the Palestinian Liberation Organization, has come up with an audacious idea. Inasmuch as the 22 Arab nations, plus the 50 predominantly Muslim countries of the world, have not succeeded in "pushing Israel into the sea" and thus doing away with them forever, why not try something new?
"Force" Israel to allow Christians, Palestinian Arabs and whoever? to flood into the one little country about the size of New Jersey (Israel). Soon there would be enough of these "new" indoctrinated citizens who believe that butchering the Jews would solve all the world's big problems and they could easily get the job done "from the inside." Thus our world would be forever free of Jews!
With irrational hate fed Arab children of the extremists from an early age, we, the people of civilized nations, think we know where the world's worst trouble lies. It is NOT with Jews and Christians who are taught to, "love our neighbors as ourselves."
A lingering question: Since there are 22 Arab nations and more than 50 predominantly Muslim nations in the world, what would be more reasonable and logical than to reserve just one little chunk of real estate for Israel as a peaceful "homeland"?
One last question: Today Kofi Annan, U.N. Secretary General, said he thought that elections in Iraq were still "on track." But in the same speech he had the gall to criticize the U.S. again by saying he did not think "that the world was a safer place because Iraq was invaded and Sadaam H. was removed." Friends, some of my Cherokee ancestors would say: "Man speak with forked tongue, like snake." (I think Mr. Annan is afraid of the report on the U.N. that is scheduled to come out on TV tonight.) We shall wait and see. "You shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

Daniels' Integrity
Editor, Times-Union: This letter is in response to Ron Williams' letter to the editor on Sept. 28, regarding republican gubernatorial candidate, Mitch Daniels' stance on gay marriage. "Mitch [Daniels] has never supported and does not support gay marriage or civil unions."
I recently received a letter with the above statement from the Mitch Daniels' campaign. The following statement was also included in the letter: "Mitch [Daniels] has always supported the traditional definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman. He does not think that a decision regarding same-sex marriages should be dictated from a judge's bench, especially one beyond Indiana's borders. If any court overturns the will of the people of Indiana, then he will address a constitutional amendment to the Indiana Constitution to ban gay marriage."
Mitch Daniels is a man of high ethics and integrity and conservative morals. He is a man of the law and will only serve to make Indiana a much safer and better place to live, work and play.
Please join with me in making Indiana a much safer and better place to live, work and play by voting for Mitch Daniels on Election Day, Nov. 2. I know he will appreciate your vote. Thank you.

Fisher Field
Editor, Times-Union: As a 1969 graduate of WCHS and a two-year varsity football letter winner, I feel qualified to correct an error which has appeared several times in your coverage of the last varsity football game at Fisher Field.
While games may have been played on a Fisher Field since 1962, the Fisher Field which was used at least through the 1968 season (and I believe a couple of years after) was on Fort Wayne Street where Central Park is now located.
We practiced in the area now located behind the home stands, and the current stadium was just a cinder track with a grassy infield and a few bleachers for track meets.

Stem Cell Research
Editor, Times-Union: I am no doctor but am smart enough to know this stem cell controversy is a bunch of bunk. If Kerry doesn't get it then I guess I'm smarter than he is.
No. 1 - everyone has stem cells. It does not have to come from embryos.
No. 2 - Bush has not squashed the research. He just halted newly harvested embryos from being used. The embryos we do have are being used and they are sufficient.
No. 3 - stem cell research is also being done in private labs.
No. 4 - Germany is having promising results in their stem cell research and they are using their patients' (not unborn babies) own stem cells.
No. 5 - Corporate pharmaceuticals and the big medical industry stands to lose. That is where the problem "lies."
God gave you ears, listen. He gave you eyes, observe. The truth is out there, look for it. Clue, watch more "Nova" and less "Survivor" and "Fear Factor." Read medical magazines in your physician's office.

Honored By Right To Life
Editor, Times-Union: It is truly an honor to be selected as a co-recipient of the first annual Mary Louise Lowe Award presented by the Kosciusko County Right to Life. For me and my family this honor is the most meaningful and cherished recognition of all of the years I have been in public service. For us there is no greater call than the protection of God's unborn.
