Warsaw advanced two singles players and a doubles team at the Northern Lakes Conference Girls Tennis Tournament semifinals Thursday on the Warsaw courts. Warsaw’s Ella Knight, the second seed at No. 2 singles, rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Plymouth’s Erin Hunter. Knight will take on top-seeded Regan Landis of Concord, a 6-1, 6-0 semifinal winner over Reegan Miller of NorthWood, in today’s finals.

Triton had 58 points and finished fourth in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference Girls Track Meet Thursday at Knox. The Lady Trojans were three points behind Winamac and four points ahead of West Central. Pioneer won the title with 157.5 points. Baylee McIntire, Mariah Musilli, Abigail Powell and Brianna Wilhite teamed to win the 4x100 relay in 53.82 seconds
WINONA LAKE – Warsaw had three boys golfers shoot in the 30s, and the other two varsity players in the low 40s to roll to Northern Lakes Conference wins over Wawasee and Goshen Tuesday.
Led by Rae Bedke’s three wins, Manchester claimed the girls title while Whitko, paced by double winner Gavin Howard, won the boys title at the Three Rivers Conference Track Meet on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus Tuesday. The Lady Squires finished with 108.5 points to edge North Miami with 101. Whitko was eighth with 41 points and Tippecanoe Valley was 10th with 30 points. Whitko’s 123.5 points outdistanced Peru’s 98, Manchester was fourth in the boys standings with 77 points, and Valley was sixth with 53 points.

Grace’s softball team came up one win short of reaching the last day of the Crossroads League Tournament. The Lady Lancers (24-28) lost to Taylor 6-0 on Monday to officially wrap up the 2017 campaign under head coach Nora Reece. Grace’s bats were hushed; the Trojans (38-15) held Grace to two hits while racking up 12 hits of their own. Taylor jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, and Grace never threatened again. The Trojans tacked on a solo home run in the third inning and two more in the sixth.
AKRON – From the very beginning, Manchester and Tippecanoe Valley played as lopsided a softball game as one can imagine.
AKRON – Manchester High School sophomore Grant Strobel isn’t a flame-throwing pitcher, but he threw strikes Monday evening and his defense took care of the rest. In a 4-0 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory at Tippecanoe Valley, Strobel was in command as he pitched seven innings and gave up just four hits. He struck out five and didn’t issue a walk.

Pairings for the 51st annual IHSAA Baseball State Tournament were announced Friday. Warsaw opens play around 7:30 p.m. May 25 in the 4A Elkhart Memorial Sectional in the tournament’s third game against Elkhart Central. The winner would play the winner between Memorial and Northridge in the semifinals on May 27. The title game is set for 11 a.m. Memorial Day, May 29. In the 3A NorthWood Sectional, Tippecanoe Valley will open the tournament against West Noble at 5 p.m. May 24. The winner faces either Lakeland or Fairfield in the semifinals at 11 a.m. May 27.

Sophomore Courtney Chookie got the win in the pitcher’s circle and led the Warsaw Lady Tigers at the plate Friday night. In a 13-7 victory over visiting Northern Lakes Conference rival Goshen, Chookie belted three hits, while teammate Jordan McClone had two, including a three-run homer in the first inning.
