Warsaw Netters Advance To NLC FinalsWarsaw advanced two singles players and a doubles team at the Northern Lakes Conference Girls Tennis Tournament semifinals Thursday on the Warsaw courts.
Warsaw’s Ella Knight, the second seed at No. 2 singles, rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Plymouth’s Erin Hunter. Knight will take on top-seeded Regan Landis of Concord, a 6-1, 6-0 semifinal winner over Reegan Miller of NorthWood, in today’s finals.
Warsaw’s Alyssa Zellers, the top seed at No. 3 singles, beat Hannah Walter of NorthWood 6-1, 6-2. Zellers plays third-seeded Ashley Harrell of Plymouth for the title.
At No. 1 doubles, the Lady Tigers’ Athena Schlitt and Colette Smith beat Wawasee’s Kendra Doerr and Kabrea Rostochak 6-4, 6-2. Schlitt and Smith will play Plymouth’s Kendall Dreibelbis & McKenzie Scheetz for the title, while Doerr and Rostochak will play NorthWood’s Kennedy Wiens and Jama Rice in the third-place match.
Liza Lewis of Warsaw dropped her No. 1 singles match to top-seeded Krystal Grubb of Memorial 6-2, 6-0. Lewis plays Alaina Brubaker of Concord in the third-place match.
At No. 2 doubles, Allison Murphy and Megan Godzisz of Concord beat Warsaw’s Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen. The Lady Tiger duo plays Betsy Nunemaker and Katie Troyer of NorthWood for third place.
In consolation round play, Meg Heinisch of Wawasee finished seventh at No. 1 singles after falling to Taylor Sellers of Northridge and beating Kayleigh Crowder of Goshen.
The Lady Warriors’ Peyton Rookstool was sixth at No. 2 singles, and Elaine Kleopfer was seventh at No. 3 singles. Wawasee’s No. 2 doubles team of Courtney Larson and Taylor Mock dropped a tough three-set marathon 6-7 (5-7) 6-4, 6-4 to Northridge’s Dominique Bate and Alpha Slabaugh, then fell 6-4, 6-4 to Makenzie Williams and E. Morales of Memorial in the seventh-place match.
The championship and third-place matches will start at 5 p.m. today at the WCHS courts.
