Prep Roundup: Chookie Leads Lady Tigers To NLC WinSophomore Courtney Chookie got the win in the pitcher’s circle and led the Warsaw Lady Tigers at the plate Friday night.

In a 13-7 victory over visiting Northern Lakes Conference rival Goshen, Chookie belted three hits, while teammate Jordan McClone had two, including a three-run homer in the first inning.

Chookie went the distance in the pitcher’s circle against the Lady RedHawks, scattering 11 hits and seven runs while striking out four and walking two.

Abby Glass, Saylor Bradley, Lauren Shaffner and Morgan Ashtari had one hit each for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in the NLC.

Goshen fell to 9-8 and 4-4 with its fourth straight loss.

Jordan Nemeth led the Lady RedHawks with three hits, while Kate Atkinson had two.

Atkinson was charged with the pitching loss after giving up 13 runs, nine hits and seven walks in six innings of work. She struck out four Warsaw batters.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead, scoring five in the bottom of the first inning.

Warsaw also scored one run in the second inning, three in the third and four in the fifth.

Goshen scored one run in each of the four innings, and later plated three runs in the seventh.



Lady Warriors Still Perfect In NLC

SYRACUSE – Amber Lemberg struck out 11 and tossed a complete-game 1-hitter, and Wawasee’s varsity softball team cruised to a 9-0 win over Northern Lakes conference opponent Elkhart Memorial Friday.

Leading 1-0, Wawasee blew the game open with six runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. The Lady Warriors pounded out 14 hits in the win, led by Kayla White’s three.

Ale Brito, Bethany Flannery and Grace Anne Kerlin had two hits each in the win.

Wawasee is now 16-3 overall and 9-0 in the NLC



RedHawks Shut Out Tigers

GOSHEN – Held to four hits, the Warsaw Tigers fell 3-0 in Northern?Lakes Conference baseball action at Goshen Friday.

The RedHawks, who had eight hits in their win, scored one run in the second, fourth and fifth innings. Both teams committed to fielding errors.

Alex Miller had two hits for the Tigers, who fell to 5-12 overall and 2-7 in the NLC, while Luke Baker and Jared Hawley had one hit each.

Jordan Jones pitched six innings for Warsaw and was charged with the pitching loss.



Triton Falls At Winamac

WINAMAC – In an evenly played high school baseball game, the Triton Trojans fell 3-2 at Winamac Friday night.

The host Warriors had five hits in the win, while the Trojans had four.

With the game tied 1-1, Winamac scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Triton rallied with a run in the top of the seventh, but fell short.

Zac Pitney had two hits for Triton, while Max Slusser and Keygan Mosier had one each.

Dylan Hensley was charged with the pitching loss after giving up five hits and three runs in five innings of work. He struck out seven and walked three.



Wawasee Baseball Team Tops Memorial

ELKHART – Wawasee scored six runs in the first three innings and rode that lead to a 7-1 Northern Lakes Conference win at Elkhart Memorial Friday night.

Rylan Kuhn led the Warriors at the plate with three hits, including a double.

Blake Norris got the win on the mound, giving up one hit and one run in four innings of work. He struck out four and walked four.

The Warriors are now 8-8 overall and 4-4 in the NLC.



Bremen Netters Top Triton

In a 3-2 loss to county rival Bremen, the Triton Lady Trojans tennis team got wins from Quinn Downing at No. 2 singles and from Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross at No. 1 doubles.

Downing beat Nicole Tomlinson 6-3, 6-2, while Wanemacher and Ross beat Lacey Bennitt and Maggie Whitinger 6-3, 6-0.

Bremen improved to 10-5 on the season, while Triton fell to 6-4.

Bremen won all four JV matches contested.



Wawasee Netters Fall To NorthWood

NAPPANEE – Wawasee’s No. 1 doubles team of Kabrea Rostochak and Kendra Doerr won in straight sets, but it was the only win for the Lady Warriors in a 4-1 loss at NorthWood Friday night.

Wawasee’s varsity squad is now 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the NLC.

NorthWood won eight of the 10 JV matches that were played.
