Prep Roundup: Raiders Top Warsaw Baseball TeamA big fifth inning led the Northridge Raiders over the Warsaw Tigers Friday evening in Northern Lakes Conference baseball action.

With the host Tigers leading 1-0 after four innings of play, Northridge scored six runs in the fifth and went on to win 8-3, spoiling Warsaw’s senior night.

The Raiders tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to push their advantage to 8-1. Warsaw rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Both teams had 12 hits in the game. Warsaw committed two errors in the field, while Northridge was charged with one.

Jordan Jones pitched 4-1/3 innings and was charged with the loss on the mound. Cam Knepp was the winning pitcher for Northridge.

Luke Baker led Warsaw offensively, going 3 for 4 at the plate, while Jared Hawley and Braxton Tennant had two hits each.

The Tigers are now 6-14 overall, 3-9 in the NLC, and will play a doubleheader at Carroll today.



Strong Start Lifts Warriors To Win

SYRACUSE – A strong start Friday night helped the Wawasee Warriors finish off Northern Lakes Conference foe Plymouth.

In an 8-2 win over the visiting Pilgrims, Wawasee plated seven runs in the first inning, as the Warriors improved to 9-12 overall and 5-7 in NLC?play.

Plymouth scored two runs in the top of the second inning, but Wawasee held the Pilgrims scoreless from there. Both teams pounded out seven hits in the game. Plymouth was charged with four errors in the field, while the Warriors didn’t commit one.

Rylan Kuhn was 2 for 2 at the plate for Wawasee, while Gavin Barker and Spencer Prescott each had a single and an RBI in the win.

Cayden Wegner got the win on the mound, giving up five hits, two runs and two walks in 4-2/3 innings of work. He struck out one Plymouth batter.

The Warriors play at West Noble today.

Jacob Krugman pitched a complete game for the Wawasee JV team, which beat Plymouth 6-5. The JV Warriors are 6-10 overall and 4-8 in the NLC.



Squires Fall Behind Early

NORTH MANCHESTER – Falling behind 7-0 after two innings of play, the Manchester Squires lost 8-3 to the visiting Heritage Patriots in a non-conference baseball game Friday.

Heritage scored three runs in the first inning, four more in the second and another in the sixth.

The Squires scored a run in the third, sixth and seventh innings, as they fell to 10-8 on the season.

David McAtee led Manchester with two hits and an RBI, while Mason Meyer had a hit and an RBI, and Jeremiah Airgood and Noah Beck had one hit each.

The Squires host Blackford for a doubleheader today.



Wawasee Softball Wins 3rd Straight NLC Title

PLYMOUTH – With a 19-1, five-inning win at Plymouth Friday, the Wawasee Lady Warriors clinched a third-straight Northern Lakes Conference softball championship.

Class 3A No. 4 Wawasee, which improved to 19-3 overall and 12-0 in the NLC, scored nine runs in the first inning, six in the second and four in the fourth. Plymouth plated its lone run in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Warriors pounded out 14 hits in the win and were charged with one error in the field. Plymouth had three hits and seven errors.

Hannah Haines got the win in the circle, giving up three hits, one run and one walk in five innings of work. She struck out six Plymouth batters.

Meghan Fretz was 3 for 4 at the plate for Wawasee with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Madi Wilson hit two doubles in the win, while Ale Brito had a double among her two hits.

Kayla White, Faith Swihart and Riley Kunkle all had two singles for Wawasee.

The Lady Warriors travel to NLC?foe Goshen Monday.



Whitko Netters Fall To Rochester

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko Lady Wildcats closed the Three Rivers Conference portion of their tennis schedule with a 3-2 loss to Rochester Friday.

Morgan Keirn was a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles for Whitko, while her sister Delaney Keirn was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles.

The Lady Wildcats finished their TRC schedule with a 5-3 record.

Whitko’s JV team beat Rochester 3-2 behind wins from singles players Natalie Iholtz and Kayla Schipper, and the No. 2 doubles team of Izzy Rayner and Katherine Ousley.

The Lady Wildcats are in action again Monday when they host Wawasee.



Warsaw’s Knight Wins At No. 2 Singles

Ella Knight won in straight sets Friday to claim a Northern Lakes Conference title at No. 2 singles.

Knight, a junior beat Concord sophomore Regan Landis 6-1, 6-2 in the finals of the conference tournament, which were played at Warsaw.

Warsaw freshman Alyssa Zellers lost 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 to Plymouth senior Ashley Harrell in the championship match at No. 3 singles.

In the finals of the No. 1 doubles competition, senior Kendall Dreibelbis and junior McKenzie Scheets of Plymouth beat the Lady Tigers’ duo of senior Athena Schlitt and junior Colette Smith by a 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 score.

Elkhart Memorial senior Krystal Grubb was the NLC champ at No. 1 singles, beating Plymouth senior Lanae Singleton 6-4, 6-1.

Plymouth juniors Leah Smith and Cortini Cook won the tile at No. 2 doubles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Concord’s Allison Murphy and Megan Godzisz.

The Warsaw duo of Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen took third place at No. 2 doubles with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Betsy Nunemaker and Katie Troyer of NorthWood.
