Lady Squires, Wildcats Take Three Rivers Conference Track Titles

Lady Squires, Wildcats Take Three Rivers Conference Track TitlesMARION – Led by Rae Bedke’s three wins, Manchester claimed the girls title while Whitko, paced by double winner Gavin Howard, won the boys title at the Three Rivers Conference Track Meet on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus Tuesday.

The Lady Squires finished with 108.5 points to edge North Miami with 101. Whitko was eighth with 41 points and Tippecanoe Valley was 10th with 30 points.

Whitko’s 123.5 points outdistanced Peru’s 98, Manchester was fourth in the boys standings with 77 points, and Valley was sixth with 53 points.

Bedke won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 runs for the Lady Squires. Bailey Sewell won the discus for Manchester, and the 4x800 relay team finished first.

Whitko’s Suzanne Sickafoose was first in the 100, second in the 400 and was the runner-up in the 200, the closest race of the night, by .01 seconds.

Howard won the shot put and discus for Whitko. The 4x400 relay team of Garrett Elder, Zack Freel, Conner Sherwin and Shad Ebbinghouse won for the Wildcats.

Elder added two second-place finishes in the long jump and the 100. Ebbinghouse was second in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, and Sherwin was second in the discus. The 4x100 relay squad took second as well.

The Squires’ 4x800 relay team won. Isaiah Davis was second in the high jump, Remington Trick was third in the 400 and Heath Dierks was third in the discus.

Dakota Parker was second in the 400 for Valley. Will Hassenplug and Jameson Baker finished second and third, respectively, in the discus. The Viking 4x400 relay was second to Whitko.

Next up for all three schools is sectional competition. The girls are at Rochester on Tuesday, and the boys are at Bremen May 18.
