The Warsaw Lady Tigers extended their defense in the second half Wednesday, and as a result they extended their homecourt winning streak. In a 49-39 win over the Wabash Lady Apaches, Warsaw switched to a full-court pressure defense after trailing 22-20 at halftime. The Lady Tigers, who turned the ball over 13 times in the first half, forced 13 turnovers in the third quarter, finished the eight-minute frame on a 13-2 run with Kennedy Patton’s buzzer-beating trey and pushed their Tiger Den win streak to 16 games.

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester High School varsity boys basketball roster lists just two seniors for the 2017-18 season.

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – History was made Saturday night for Grace College’s men’s soccer team. Nikola Djordjevic’s goal in the 98th minute won the Crossroads League Tournament championship for the Lancers, who rallied to beat Spring Arbor University 4-3 in overtime.

Whitko took advantage of 27 Churubusco fouls, making 27 of 41 free throws to take a 45-40 win over the host Lady Eagles in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday night. Because of injuries, the Lady ‘Cats played just six players, and all six scored. Ellie Snep hit nine charity shots in 13 tries on her way to a game-high 17 points, and Kayla Schipper went 9 of 14 from the line and finished with 15 points.

Kennedy Fierstos had 20 points for Manchester in its 45-36 non-conference girls basketball loss at Bluffton Saturday night. Sydney Day had eight points and four rebounds, and Kiera Hatfield pulled down four rebounds for the Lady Squires. “We didn’t handle Bluffton’s defensive pressure very well,”?manchester coach Jacob Everett said. “Too many mistakes on the offensive end for us tonight that Bluffton was able to take advantage of.”

The eighth annual “Run For The Heart” 5K run/walk and 1-mile Santa Chase will be held Dec. 2 at Sacred Heart School/Church, 135 N. Harrison Sr., Warsaw. The event is held in memory of Monsignor James J. Wolf. Registration is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the race, and registrations in by Nov. 21 are guaranteed a race T-shirt.

An overtime goal handed Grace’s women’s soccer team an early exit in the NCCAA Regional Tournament. The Lady Lancers lost 2-1 in overtime at Concordia in the semifinals of the regional tournament. Concordia advances to play at Indiana Wesleyan in the regional title game; the winner of that game receives an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships. Friday’s game in the regional tournament was scoreless through the first 53 minutes of action. Neither team found the back of the net in the first half despite 18 combined shots.

Fall sports awards were presented by the athletic department at Manchester High School Thursday evening. One student-athlete from each sport was selected to receive the Rotary Mental Attitude award. Winners were: Andrew McAtee, football; Jirni Cripe, girls soccer; Konrad Borgmann, boys soccer; Kyle Shepherd, boys tennis; Alicia Fields, volleyball; Samantha Kissell, girls golf; Breyanna Richey, cheerleading; Anna Markham, girls cross country; and Montgomery Pattison, boys cross country. Each sport also named a winner of the Squire Award. They were: Nathan Ozenbaugh, football; Kiera Stacy, girls soccer, Nathan Self, boys soccer; Logan Parrett, boys tennis; Emma West, volleyball; Kelsey Eichenauer, girls golf; Karrigan Yard, cheerleading; Jaelyn Webb, girls cross country; and Ben Reichenbach, boys cross country.
