Whitko’s Free Throw Shooting Leads To Win At ChurubuscoCHURUBUSCO – Whitko took advantage of 27 Churubusco fouls, making 27 of 41 free throws to take a 45-40 win over the host Lady Eagles in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday night.
Because of injuries, the Lady ‘Cats played just six players, and all six scored. Ellie Snep hit nine charity shots in 13 tries on her way to a game-high 17 points, and Kayla Schipper went 9 of 14 from the line and finished with 15 points.
Whitko held a 33-21 lead at the end of three quarters and held off a fourth-quarter rally by Churubusco to claim its first win of the season.
"I’m so very proud of the way this team continues to fight and grind it out," Whitko coach Rick Bragg said. "We played six players due to all the injuries. I can not think of a better effort and amount of heart from a team as compared to what I observed tonight. Ellie Snep, Kayla Schipper, Lizz Foutz, Anna Ousley, Taylor Reiff, and Sarah Hewitt simply refused to lose tonight."
Whitko (1-3) opens Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday at Peru (1-2). Churubusco (0-2) plays at Lakeland Christian Academy (1-0) Tuesday night.
