Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union: Many say we should be tolerant. That is a good way to allow evil people to prevail. John Adams said the constitution was intended for a moral people. But he didn't tolerate evil like too many people do today. It's not just Democrats that tolerate evil. Republicans at times tolerate evil and use the Constitution to support their views.

Editor, Times-Union: I can’t remain silent about the president’s Easter Sunday vile and expletive-added message concerning Iran. I would be just as upset if any president of any political party performed the same despicable action.

Editor, Times-Union: Earth Day highlights the urgent need for evidence-based solutions to the climate and ecological crises. But what most people don't realize is the biggest impact we can makes as individuals starts on our plates.

Editor, Times-Union: Last Thursday night, we lost electricity at 8:12 p.m. We called - they said they were aware of the outage. It was only on LaVista Drive and maybe on Short Ridge, too. At 8 the next morning, another call resulted in a 10:15 estimated time. Later a call produced a 2:15 estimate. After that, the estimate was 8 p.m. Power was back at 7:50. A NIPSCO car brought a man. (I think a NIPSCO supervisor.) There were two boom trucks but they were not NIPSCO trucks. I discovered the reason on the late news. NIPSCO locked ot the men who normally fix outages.

Editor, Times-Union: We want to thank the fellas in County Highway truck #82 for stopping to pick me up off our drive going up the hill to our house!

Editor, Times-Union: Nothing new for Warsaw gas stations to gouge their customers, we have been down this road before.

Editor, Times-Union: Long before the so-called ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was announced, Iran had proposed a 10-point resolution for ending the war. In return, the U.S. had proposed a 15-point resolution. Guess who caved? It was announced mere minutes before Trump’s war-crime threat to annihilate Iran was to become a reality that an agreed upon two-week ceasefire was suddenly in effect. Iran’s 10-point proposal was accepted in full as follows:

Editor, Times-Union: I am no longer a resident of Kosciusko County, but after spending more than 30 years there, I still care deeply about the community and the people who make it such a special place to call home. I also have tremendous respect and trust for Don Wiesehan, which is why I want to see him elected and why I believe he is uniquely suited to serve with integrity and purpose.

Editor, Times-Union: I feel that Winona Lake would benefit from having Jerry Nelson’s perspective on the town council. Jerry Nelson is knowledgeable and is willing to stand for what he thinks.

Editor, Times-Union: I’m voting for Don Wiesehan because he’s a genuine, down‑to‑earth guy who truly wants better for Kosciusko County. He brings a fresh mind and fresh ideas to the table, and that’s exactly what this position needs.

Editor, Times-Union: I have a suggestion for the editor in charge. At the start of the letters, the letter should be described as fantasy, inform, entertaining or persuade letters.

Editor, Times-Union: The No Kings rallies reminded me of what happened nearly 90 years ago. Thousands of people in one nation opposed a king who had plunged his country into an unpopular war. What he did was send out the troops to shoot down the people in the streets. But the protesters were successful and he abdicated. Afterwards the nation became a dictatorship that wanted to rule the world. By then it was called the Soviet Union. The same thing happened in another nation and it became Nazi Germany.

Editor, Times-Union: On March 10, I was named Kosciusko County’s Veteran of the Month for March 2026.

Editor, Times-Union: It’s been a recurring theme that civic and societal participation has been on the decline in the past several decades. Various organizations are seeing continuous declines in membership, less people are volunteering, and existing groups are dominated by individuals over 40 as millennials and Gen Z disengage at higher rates. This creates a decline in social capital and thus makes sense why our nation is very divided in the modern day. Fortunately, there is a way to reconnect with our community and do good work for our fellow man: go to church.

Editor, Times-Union: On behalf of the Valley Hometown Fund Committee, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and supported the recent Valley Hometown Fundraiser Basketball Games. Thanks to the incredible generosity and enthusiasm of our community, the event raised over $4,000 for the Valley Hometown Fund.

Editor, Times-Union: I just got a letter that our doctor is leaving and going to Parkview.

Editor, Times-Union: When I think of what I want in a county councilperson, I think of someone who is good with budgets and can stand alone on what they think. Kim Cates fits that bill. Her actions

Editor, Times-Union: As millions of families in America are struggling to find, purchase and prepare wholesome, healthy, affordable meals for their families, it should be a comfort to know that at least the people in Washington whose substantial salaries we pay are certainly eating well. According to a recent newsletter posted by The Independent, the “U.S. military spent $9 million on crab legs and lobsters in September.” The government watchdog, Open the Books, as well as Military.com, report that the defense department, under Pete Hegseth’s direction has been feeding military officials more than the mac and cheese and PB&J’s that the American people are “enjoying.”

Editor, Times-Union: We all know the holocaust killed millions and the New York Times acted at the time that it didn't happen. The Iranian government had tens of thousands of its people murdered because they wanted freedom, and President Trump got fed up with the oppression and the lies of the government and went to war with Iran even though Iran was at war with the U.S. since 1979 in one way or another. But the Democrats voted to take defeat out of the jaws of victory by voting to stop the war against the 21st century version of the Nazis. I thought Democrats hated Nazis. I guess I was wrong.

Editor, Times-Union: Whitko High School warmly invites our community to join us for the 17th annual Jarred Day Auction on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. This special event was created to support Jarred Lewis, a beloved WHS student-athlete who faced a life-changing car accident. In his honor, National Honor Society carries on this tradition each year during the week before spring break, celebrating his spirit and the power of coming together to help others.

Editor, Times-Union: The purpose of this letter is to state that the U.S. will never avoid war going forward. For at least a century, the president campaigns on a promise to avoid war and then pursues war anyway. Vice President Vance said in 2024 that a war with Iran was in not our country’s interest and yet Trump bombed it this year. Obama promised to end the war in Iraq before bombing Libya, Bush criticized the Clinton administration for being too militant before invading Iraq, and Woodrow Wilson campaigned on keeping the U.S. out of war before entering WWI. Regardless of party, the president drags America into war.

Editor, Times-Union: On November 11, 2013, Donald Trump said, “... I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly ...”

Editor, Times-Union: The State of the Union address and the war against Iran and its reactions tells me the Democrats don't support democracy. Over 30,000 Iranians were slaughtered by their government and Democrats turn their backs on people who yearn for democracy. Iran is a festering cancerous sore in the world and Trump went to war against Iran because he warned the negotiators that if they didn't do away with their nuclear weapons program he would attack. He also told the protesters he had their back. Despite what many claim, Trump is a man of his word which means he was obligated to attack Iran.

Editor, Times-Union: I am asking you to join me in voting to re-elect Bob Conley for county commissioner.

Editor, Times-Union: I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the residents of Kosciusko County for their warm welcome, support, and generosity towards Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. This February is the two-year anniversary of our office location in Warsaw, and we wouldn’t be able to offer our assistance to cancer patients without the support of this wonderful community.
