Editor, Times-Union:
Contrary to some people’s opinion, being a commissioner is much more than going to commissioner meetings and voting. To do the job justice, a commissioner prepares before each meeting. A commissioner also listens to what the citizens want. Each commissioner sits on several other boards. Each of those boards requires preparation before each of their meetings. Not everyone is in a position to put in that amount of work. Many of these meetings take place during business hours. Not everyone’s day job allows them to go to numerous meetings during the day. Because Bob Conley has a proven record of putting in the work of being a commissioner and working on the other associated boards, Bob should be re-elected.
Voting the way your constituents want is not always easy. It is easy for people like myself who are not elected to anything to say we are for this or are against that. It is another thing to vote in public as a decision maker. There were some business development leaders who were in favor of the data center. Bob Conley listened to all sides and voted for us when he voted against the data center. Because Bob Conley listened to the citizens and voted the way we wanted to stop the data center, Bob should be re-elected.
I am asking you to join me in voting to re-elect Bob Conley for county commissioner.
