Hannah Herbster and Clarissa Knight received recognition for their outstanding seasons on the annual All-Crossroads League Team. Herbster was named to the All-League Team, and Knight was honorable mention for All-League.

SYRACUSE – Waiting for his team to come up with a big hit, Wawasee High School softball coach Mike Barger decided to play small ball.

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko senior Drew Bradford was dominant on the mound, throwing a three-hitter and striking out nine in the Wildcats’ 4-0 Three Rivers Conference baseball win over visiting Manchester Wednesday.

A night after knocking off No. 24 NorthWood, host Warsaw dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 26 Concord in Three Rivers Conference girls tennis Wednesday. Alyssa Zellers won a three-set match at No. 3 singles for Warsaw, and the No. 1 doubles team of Collette Smith and Athena Schlitt won in straight sets for the Lady Tigers.

The Wawasee Warriors split their runs among two innings Wednesday, eventually splitting the season series with Northern Lakes Conference and Kosciusko County rival Warsaw.

On the opening day of the Crossroads League Tournament, Grace’s softball team split its first two games. The Lady Lancers (24-27) started the tournament strong, despite coming into the week on a six-game losing streak. Grace, the No. 5 seed in the bracket, took down the fourth-seeded Huntington 5-1 behind a brilliant pitching performance from Hannah England. The next round pitted Grace against NAIA No. 4 Marian with the Lady Lancers falling 4-1.

Wawasee senior Jeremiah Dilley signed a letter of intent Wednesday to continue his academic and wrestling careers at Marian University in Indianapolis.

The Three Rivers Conference announced its spring sports academic all-conference team Tuesday.

While elementary school kids got tennis lessons on a nearby court, the Warsaw Lady Tigers took 24th-ranked NorthWood to school in the early matches and rolled to a 4-1 win at the Warsaw Tennis and Fitness Center Tuesday.

Though played in dreary conditions, there was a bright spot for nearly every high school boys golf team in Tuesday’s Joe Harris Shootout.

Grace’s women’s golf team put its finishing touches on the 2016-17 season at the Crossroads League Championships. The Lady Lancers showed improvement all three rounds Monday and Tuesday, finishing in sixth place at Eagle Eye Golf Club. As a team, Grace shot 360-353 over the first two rounds on Monday. The young Lady Lancers, starting three sophomores and two freshmen, capped off the season with a third-round 351 to solidify a sixth-place showing. Grace’s team scoring was 31 strokes better than last year’s result, the first year in team history. Lauren Keiser was the steadiest hand for Grace. She dropped her round score by two strokes each time, producing a scoreline of 89-87-85 to end in 14th place on the individual leaderboard.

SYRACUSE – In Wawasee’s recent baseball history, getting down early meant the Warriors were going to stay down. Monday at Warrior Field, at least for a day, that changed.

AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings, as head coach Justin Branock said afterward, found a sense of urgency in the seventh inning.

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley had to come from behind four times, and never led until scoring the winning run with two outs in the eighth inning to beat Southwood 12-11 in a Three Rivers Conference softball game Monday.

INDIANAPOLIS – Several changes in sectional competition for six sports that affect area schools were announced by the IHSAA Monday afternoon. In football’s Class 6A Sectional 2, Warsaw joins Penn, Chesterton and Valparaiso.

On Saturday, Grace’s track and field team had its first home meet in program history. On Monday two Lancers, Joel Zook and Macallister Seitz, were honored as the Crossroads League Athletes of the Week for their performances in Grace’s historic meet at the new Bernard and Linnie Key Track and Field Complex.

WINONA LAKE – Grace College hosted its first track and field meet on Saturday with the inaugural Lancer Invitational. A wet, memorable afternoon debuted Grace's new Bernard and Linnie Key Track and Field Complex in front of a strong contingent of fans, despite heavy rain for most of the meet.

With rain floating off to the south, Warsaw finished second to Carroll in the Max Truex Invitational boys track meet Friday at Fisher Field.
