Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:This week, House Republicans renewed our call for immediate relief for Hoosier property taxpayers, proposing a $200 million relief plan we hope will serve as a blueprint for agreement and action in a special session of the General Assembly.

- Fishing Etiquette - Philharmonic Says Thanks - Special Interests Fishing Etiquette Editor, Times-Union: The Christian Bass Association held a tournament at Chapman Lake, in Warsaw, Ind., this past Saturday evening.I am sure many of the participants also participant in tournaments sponsored by B.A.S.S. I was visiting some friends at Chapman Lake.I was very disappointed in many of the anglers participating in the tournament. They had absolutely no respect for residents' personal property, the lake or others using the lake. The anglers are guests when they participate in tournaments.Just because they have bass boats and pay to fish in tournaments does not give them reason to disrespect the lake and residents' properties.

Editor, Times-Union: Recently, a squib appeared in The Paper to the effect that if gay marriage is OK, why isn’t polygamy OK?

Editor, Times-Union:When will Congress get down to business and work for the benefit of everyone, instead of themselves and the party they represent?

- Property Tax - Open On Holidays - Veterans Program - Gay Marriage - Restaurant Week - Kindness Of Strangers - Job Well Done Property Tax Editor, Times-Union: The property tax is the most difficult tax to comprehend. There has been a lot of talk in the media lately about the property tax situation in Indiana. Some of the issues regarding property taxes can be confusing, and I would like to help clarify some of your frequently-asked questions.

- Worst Enemies - Political Letters Worst Enemies Editor, Times-Union: Stuart Bowen told the BBC that Iraq was facing a second insurgency of corruption and mismanagement. He said Iraqi government corruption could amount to $4 billion a year, over 10 percent of the national income, with some money going to the insurgency. Many government workers also lack the skills to manage funds, Mr.Bowen said. "This money that's stolen doesn't merely enrich criminals," Mr Bowen said."(It) frequently goes out to fund criminal militias or insurgents. That means lost lives for US troops." Meanwhile corruption in the U.S.has cost trillions.Young men, do you really believe it's worth dying for? The worst enemies are right here at home and most are bureaucrats.

Editor, Times-Union: In response to Kaci Slough’s letter on gas, you are 100 percent correct about the gas prices not being the president’s fault. Now I hope some of the democrats will get it through their heads that it wasn’t Bush’s fault either. I truly expected to have a whole page of people ripping me to shreds. But really if you Google gas prices, there are some who are still blaming the Republicans for it. It needs to be fixed, period. If we continue to depend on foreign oil we are all going to be in trouble. I think we can all agree on that. One bad part of it all is most, if not all, of the politicians today have their money invested in oil, so depending on them to fix the problem is pretty much a mute point. Why is gas more costly around here as compared to Fort Wayne or some of the other local cities? So, yep, I wrote it expecting to get hammered from the Bush haters and I guess I will before it’s over, but it was good to see that there is one person out there who looks beyond the politics of it all. I’m not a Obama supporter, just wish someone could get it turned around. Have a good day. Lonnie Slone Warsaw, via e-mail Editor, Times-Union: In response to Kaci Slough’s letter on gas, you are 100 percent correct about the gas prices not being the president’s fault.

Editor, Times-Union:A U.S. history lesson: On May 25, 1787, a Constitutional Convention met in Philadelphia.

Editor, Times-Union:I get amused by politicians blaming each other for high prices at the pump and vowing to fix everything as soon as they are elected.

Editor, Times-Union:On Sept. 11, 2001, I drove from North Webster to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie to witness the birth

Editor, Times-Union:I'm writing mainly to vent. I'm sure there are plenty of families in the same situation.

Editor, Times-Union:The senatorial run is sure growing interesting.

- Education - Weather - Animal Rescue - Hospice - Snowstorm Thanks - Campaign Education Editor, Times-Union: Education: 1.The cost of ... 2.The returns of ... 3.The owners of ... 4.The disparateness of it ... 5.The climate of it ... 6.The importance of it ... 7.The politics of it ... 8.The controller of it ... 9.The controversy of it ... 10."What To Do" of it ... I have many thoughts on the above poses, and as would always be the case, they should give cause for debate. As I was growing up, I heard from my dad (a railroad section foreman) that federal aid to education would take away freedoms - loss of local control - I think they were good words.

Editor, Times-Union:A letter was written to the editor recently about the sunny side of pitbulls in the area of Atwood.

Editor, Times-Union:To Hunters and Gun Owners in the United States:

Editor, Times-Union:I have read with much entertainment the recent letters from Tom Metzger and Lisa Rector in regard to Senator Obama's citizenship.

- Likes WRSW - Steelworkers - Patients' Rights - Satisfying Experience Likes WRSW Editor, Times-Union: I would like to add my two cents on WRSW radio, in relation to what was written by the gentlemen the other day.Yes, they are doing a very good job, but you forgot Blake Miller, Ringo Cleveland and Roger; they also do a good job and take a lot of heat. Whenever I call to request a song, it gets played; the songs my co-workers call in get played.Plus they sit and ask me "How's it going?" So they care about me.

Editor, Times-Union:A song by Alan Jackson called "Remember When" keeps playing in my head and I'm trying not to cry.

- Tire Dump - Accountability - Property Damage - Cheap And Unfair Tire Dump Editor, Times-Union: It sure is nice to see the tire dump at Atwood finally being cleaned up.The people in this area owe a big "thank you" to some men and women who have worked hard for several years to see this through and finally get some action.Justin and Laura Roberts, Jim and Pam Roberts and Bill and Evelyn Bradbury have spent their own money; spent thousands of hours; endured threats against them, their children and grandchildren; and still fought to do what was best for this area.

- What's Important - WRSW Says Thanks - Local Issues - Positive Experience - REMC Outage - Tara's Family Says Thanks What's Important Editor, Times-Union: "Surprised By What's Considered Important."Good article, Mr.Gerard.Many of us feel and share in your frustration. Do you remember the old Grit magazine? Children sold them door to door to win prizes. The man that started it had a son. When he took it over, his editor wanted to change a few things. The son said, "Hey, if it was good enough for Dad it's good enough for me." Today the old Grit headquarters in Athens, Ga., is a vegan restaurant.

Editor, Times-Union: My name is Deborah Clark and I am a survivor. What I mean by that is that at age 12 to 21 I was raped four times by four different men and molested and physically abused by others.

Editor, Times-Union:I know the Times-Union must report on police matters in our community, but I find it tasteless ...

- Football Injuries - Christian Democrat - Get Off My Path - Contractor Praised Football Injuries Editor, Times-Union: On Sept.2nd of this year, our sons were injured during a freshman football game at Tippy Valley and unfortunately their injuries were deemed serious enough that they were transported via ambulance to KCH in Warsaw. The decision was made at KCH to airlift both boys to Fort Wayne for further evaluation of their injuries. One boy was transported to Parkview, the other, at his parents' request, was transported to Lutheran.

- Positive Educational Experience - 107.3 Says Thanks Positive Educational Experience Editor, Times-Union: I would like to thank Sharon Ellis (our Madison Elementary school librarian) for her magnificent collaboration of events in the freedom celebration for our school on the anniversary of 9-11.The event was not only a remembrance of the victims of 9-11 but a celebration of our freedom and the fact that we are alive to celebrate it.What a positive educational experience for our children - an experience they will remember. Thanks, Sharon, for helping to make this day a memory for Madison.

Editor, Times-Union:For the first time in my adult life, I'm fearful regarding the fate of my country.
