Pitbull Retort

Editor, Times-Union:

A letter was written to the editor recently about the sunny side of pitbulls in the area of Atwood. I would like to retort.

I have spent my life around canine breeding and many types of dogs. In no way can you glorify how great a pitbull is as an animal. That would be like telling a home owner how beautiful a tornado is as it destroys his home.

I have witnessed these creatures, loved since they were puppies, in a non-hostile home, remove the bottom lip of my friend's son. It is possible in all breeds, but yours is prone and designed for such happenings. Animals are instinctive, they will always revert back to it. And it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

I have called the police on a couple of occasions, due to the fact that those cats that your dog was chasing, just so happened to be my children playing in their yard. Which again, shows the intelligence level of these animals and/or owners of whom cannot tell the difference between cats and children.

So, in closing, do not glorify the pitbull. If you love your dogs, keep better tabs on them, and keep them in your yard. You do not have to tend to my upset children, and I do not want to tend to your dogs.
