SOUTH WHITLEY – Wava Jean Boggs, 89, formerly of Collamer, died at 1:20 p.m. Sept. 14, 2016, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester, where she became a resident in 2014. She was born April 4, 1927, in Whitley County, a daughter of Earl and Florence Miller Striggle. On June 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harlan N. Boggs, who died Sept. 23, 1998. A lifelong resident of Collamer, she graduated from South Whitley High School in 1945. She worked at The Paper Box after high school. After raising her five children, she began working at South Whitley Elementary School, where she later volunteered and became a mentor. She was a member of Collamer First Church of God, where she served as clerk, treasurer, organist and many other duties as well as participating in WCSC and Who group. She was also a member of Women’s Conservation Club and was a Heart of Gold Award of Whitley County recipient. She enjoyed sewing and playing the organ and piano. Survivors include a son, Jim Boggs, South Whitley; three daughters: Pam Boggs, Elmirage, Ariz.; Kathy (and spouse Russ) Rose, Claypool; and Vicki (and spouse Bryan) Sprunger, South Whitley; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded by a son, Jerry Boggs; and three sisters: Ellen Striggle, Doris Mantle and Betty Haas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Collamer First Church of God, Ind. 14W. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
