Grace’s women’s soccer team was invited to play the Women’s National U20 Team of Nicaragua on Friday and produced a 2-2 draw. The Lady Lancers, near the end of their weeklong mission trip to the country, used two goals from Liz Van Wormer to produce a memorable draw. Grace outshot Nicaragua 10-7 in the match with both sides taking two shots on goal. Nicaragua scored first in the 18th minute, netting from the right side.

Grace’s baseball team continued its impressive spring break trip with a 12-1 win over Penn State-New Kensington on Friday. The Lancers improved to 4-1 while playing at historic Dodgertown in Florida. Grace has one game remaining on Saturday in Florida, playing Miami-Hamilton at 10 a.m. New Kensington started the game well, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. That proved to be the high point of the game for New Kensington, however.

Former Warsaw Tiger Jordyn Kindig scored seven points in the first three minutes of the game, and ex-Tippecanoe Valley Viking Nick Kindig dropped a three-pointer in Bethel’s opening 12-0 run to lead the Pilots to an easy 104-71 win over Eastern Oregon in the second round of the NAIA Division II Tournament Friday evening.

The Triton fifth-grade girls basketball team finished its season with two wins at North Liberty Thursday. The “A” team won 36-15 and the “B” team took a 24-16 victory. The “A” team had a 13-1 record for the season, while the “B” team finished 6-4.

In Doug Ogle's view, coaching against someone who played for legendary coach John Wooden is "very cool."

Warsaw seniors Dayton Groninger and Kyle Mangas, and Tippecanoe Valley senior Anne Secrest were named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State team Thursday. Receiving honorable mention were Meredith Brouyette of Tippecanoe Valley, Page Desenberg of Warsaw, Hannah Haines of Wawasee, Tim Conley of Wawasee, David McAtee of Manchester, and Zac Pitney of Triton.

Bethel College had six players in double figures in its 104-78 rout of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Thursday in the first round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament. Gage Ott had a game-high 19 points for the Pilots, with Triton alum Clay Yeo, along with Paul Foreman and Caleb Oetjen, adding 15 points each. Former Warsaw Tiger Jordyn Coon had 14, and Ryan Wassink tossed in 10 points in the winning cause.

Junior outfielder Mikayla Deisler rapped three hits in four at-bats, leading Manchester University’s offense Thursday.  Deisler delivered one of the squad’s five hits in a five-inning, game one 10-0 loss to visiting Taylor University. Continuing an afternoon and early evening when her batting average soared 100 points the junior came back in the nightcap to go two-for-two with a run scored as part of a close-knit 6-3 loss.

East Chicago Central scores 71 points per game, the 11th-best average among Class 4A teams. Warsaw prides itself on defense, giving up just 41 points per game, which is tops in the state among 4A squads.

Already facing the task of replacing a superb senior class of players, the Warsaw Lady Tigers are now in need of a head coach.

The Whitko girls basketball team recently held its awards night to celebrate the 2017 basketball season.

Grace College’s Chandler Elliott was named the NCCAA National Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. Elliott posted a 1.27 ERA in 11.0 innings last week, throwing parts of two games on the same day. She pitched a complete game against Cornerstone to get the win, yielding only four hits and one earned run in a narrow 4-3 victory.

Tippecanoe Valley senior Meredith Brouyette signed a letter of intent Tuesday to continue her academic and basketball careers at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

The boys state basketball tournament has been whittled down to 64 teams. There are 16 in each of the four classes. After Saturday, those 16 will become four, and those four will be one win of a trip to the state finals in Indianapolis.

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Crossroads League will be well represented in the this year’s NAIA Div. II Men’s Basketball National Tournament, as will the area.

Warsaw senior guard Kyle Mangas  was named player of the week for  District 1 by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association on Monday. The 6-3 Mangas averaged 22.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in leading Warsaw to a 3-0 week and the championship of the Class 4A Elkhart Central Sectional last week.

The Warsaw boys and girls track teams opened their seasons Saturday at the Hoosier State Relays indoor meet with several state-ranked performances. The 4x200 relay team of Rane Kilburn, Will McGarvey, D'Andre Street and Alijah Wade recorded a time of 1:35.66, and are now ranked ninth in the state. The 4x400 relay of Bishop Harrison, Justus Voss, Tristan Larsh and Street checked in with a time of 3:38.87, good for a No. 10 ranking. In the 4x800 relay, Xavi Ramierez, Kennis Dye, Isaac Mitchell and Justin Fleming completed the distance in  8:56.84, leaving them ranked 17th. The distance medley relay team of Fleming, Ridley Lemon, Ramierez, and Dye  recorded a time of 11:43.5.

Seniors Zac Pitney and Grant Johnson of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference champion- Triton Trojans were named to the first team all-conference squad Monday. Pitney averaged almost 16 points a game in the regular season, and pulled down just under five rebounds per contest. Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds per game.

Seniors Madison Beaman and Aubrey Schmeltz tied for medalist honors, each carding a 46 in visiting Wawasee’s 196-248 win over host Westview at Heron Creek Golf Club Thursday.

Whitko senior Riley Insley scored off a corner kick, accounting for the lone goal in the Lady Wildcats’ 4-1 loss at Central Noble Thursday evening. On Saturday, Whitko will host West Noble, with kickoff scheduled for 10 a.m.
