Selections for the All-Three Rivers Conference baseball and softball teams were announced Tuesday.
Warsaw Community High School is well represented on this year’s Indiana All-Star teams – sort of.
The Wawasee Athletic Department presented its spring sports awards Monday at the school.
Whitko’s Drew Bradford was selected as the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association District I Player of the Year, and his coach, Erik Hisner, won a second consecutive Coach of the Year award.
LAKEVILLE – There are ups and downs in every sports season. Whitko’s softball team experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows Saturday at the 2A LaVille Semistate tournament.
MONTICELLO – The key to beating fifth-ranked Wawasee Saturday, said South Bend St. Joe High School softball coach Earl Keith, was keeping Ale Brito and Kayla White off the base paths.
WABASH – After winning their first baseball sectional title on Monday night, the Whitko Wildcats looked to resume their dream story Saturday afternoon in the same venue where they were crowned days before.
Warsaw, Bedke, Manges Compete At Girls State Meet; Whitko's Bradford Wins Coaches Award
The Warsaw Tigers made it a clean sweep in Friday’s boys golf sectional at Rozella Ford, claiming both the individual and team championships. Led by senior Luke Johnson’s medalist round of 74, the Tigers captured the team title with a four-man score of 309. The end result for Johnson and the Tigers was as beautiful as the weather. Warsaw won its first sectional title since 2013, ending a three-year reign by Columbia City, and claimed its 27th championship overall. The Tigers also washed the bad taste out of their mouths after not advancing to the regional last season for the first time since 1993.
Several area athletes competed in the IHSAA boys state track meet Friday at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University. Warsaw’s 4x100 relay team of Rane Kilburn, Will McGarvey, Alijah Wade and Tristan Larsh was 13th in 42.86 seconds. The team from Carroll won in 41.06 seconds.
SYRACUSE – Away from the softball diamond, Wawasee High School seniors Meghan Fretz and Amber Lemberg are described as goofballs and fun to be around.
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko fans have a tough choice to make regarding its diamond-dwelling teams Saturday.
Thirty years ago, Tony Elliott and Dave Darland shared the track championship at Kokomo Speedway.
FORT WAYNE – Things went really well Tuesday evening for Meghan Fretz and her Wawasee High School teammates. Nearly perfect in fact.
WINAMAC – The postseason is all about overcoming circumstances to stay in the tournament. Whitko did just that in winning its first softball regional title, holding off a late Winamac rally for a 5-4 victory Tuesday night.

The Northern Lakes Conference announced its all-conference teams for softball, boys golf and boys and girls track today. Softball conference champion Wawasee placed five players on the All-NLC team. Sophomore Kayla White and seniors Ale Brito, Meghan Fretz, Maddie Wilson and Amber Lemberg were named to the team. Hannah Haines and Aubrey Kuhn were honorable mention. Warsaw’s Abby Glass and Saylor Bradley were named to the all-conference team, and Courtney Chookie was honorable mention. Mike Barger of Wawasee was named coach of the year.
WABASH – The Whitko High School baseball team will fill in a blank spot on its sign hanging on the north wall of the school gym.
ELKHART – The Warsaw Tigers didn’t go quietly in their baseball finale.

ELKHART – Warsaw’s Class 4A sectional baseball game Friday against Elkhart Central, which was to be played at Elkhart Memorial High School, was rained out and rescheduled for 10 a.m. today.
CULVER – The Triton No. 1 doubles duo of Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher ended their season Friday.
