BOURBON – Caston may have thrown the first punch, but Triton was able to wear down the visiting Comets over the course of time and claim a 42-13 win in the opening round of Class 1A Sectional 41 Friday night.

PERU – The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings lost starting quarterback Tanner Trippiedi to an injury in the first quarter, struggled to slow Peru’s offense and saw their season end with a 33-14 loss Friday night.

ANGOLA – In the opening round of Class 4A Sectional 19, the fifth-ranked Angola Hornets stung the Wawasee Warriors Friday night. With just nine first downs on the night, Angola racked up 520 yards of offense and cruised to a 38-7 win over the Warriors.

ALBION – The Central Noble Cougars used an impressive running game to dial up a 56-8 win over the visiting Whitko Wildcats Friday night in Class 2A Sectional 34 action.

NOTRE DAME – The Grace College women’s basketball team suffered a 61-51 defeat on Friday in the season opener at Holy Cross.

The Lakeview Tigers seventh grade football team completed a 9-0 season with a 22-0 win over Wawasee in the NELMSC championship game Thursday.

KOKOMO – The Warsaw Tigers gave third-ranked Lafayette Harrison all it could handle Saturday.

DUNLAP – Warsaw defeated Concord twice in the volleyball regular season, including a five-set win for the Lady Tigers that kept Concord from a perfect Northern Lakes Conference record.

LOGANSPORT – It’s a sad reality of postseason play, but only one team can win.

CULVER – Warsaw senior Mia Beckham emerged as the individual girls champion for the third straight year, and Warsaw’s boys and girls cross country teams each won championships at the Culver Academies Regional Saturday.

Triton won its fourth consecutive volleyball sectional title Saturday, beating host Culver Community 25-6, 25-5, 25-20 in the semifinals and earning a 25-12, 25-5, 25-11 win over LaCrosse for the title. In the semifinal win over the Lady Cavaliers, Nicole Sechrist had nine kills, four aces and four blocks for the Lady Trojans. Charlotte Morris had seven kills, Hannah Wanemacher had 20 assists, Emma Ross three aces and Sydney Musilli 11 digs in the winning cause.

Lancers Jump Into First Place With Road Win; Lady Lancers Break Records At MVNU

Max Slusser ran for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and James Snyder had a touchdown passing and another on the ground for Triton in its 36-19 Hoosier North Athletic Conference football win Friday at Winamac. The win was the sixth for Triton, assuring the Trojans of their first winning season since 2008. The victory also secured sole possession of third place in the conference.

Wawasee became the first school to host the War-Hawk trophy with its 20-0 Northern Lakes Conference football victory at Goshen Friday night. The shutout was Wawasee’s first since Aug. 19, 2016, a 13-0 win over South Bend Washington. It was the Warriors’ first blanking of a conference opponent since a 31-0 win over Warsaw on Oct. 1, 2004. The War-Hawk trophy replaced the Chief, which was retired when Goshen changed its mascot after the 2015 football season.

Zach Gardner rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown, and Hunter Reed had 148 yards of total offense, with one running and one receiving touchdown for Whitko in its 28-22 loss to visiting Wabash in the Three Rivers Conference football playoff game Friday. The Wildcats came back from a 16-0 deficit to tie the game. After Wabash returned a fumble for a touchdown, Reed scored early in the fourth quarter to retie the contest.

The Edgewood Lady Tigers eighth grade volleyball team won the NELMSC tournament earlier this week, beating Lakeview 25-24, 25-18 for the title.

AKRON – It didn’t take the North Miami Warriors long to figure out what was working Friday night.

DUNLAP – If all that counted was the last 44-1/2 minutes of the football game, Warsaw would have pulled off its second upset of a ranked team in as many weeks.
