ANGOLA – In the opening round of Class 4A Sectional 19, the fifth-ranked Angola Hornets stung the Wawasee Warriors Friday night.
With just nine first downs on the night, Angola racked up 520 yards of offense and cruised to a 38-7 win over the Warriors.
Angola, now 10-0 on the season, tallied 359 yards on 30 rushing attempts and also completed 10 of 19 passing attempts for 161 yards.
The Warriors, who finished the season with a 3-7 record, had eight first downs in the game and tallied 133 yards of total offense.
Wawasee rushed the ball 42 times for 111 yards and completed 6 of 17 pass attempts for 22 yards.
Angola’s Chase Schnepf scored on runs of 67, 63 and 21 yards, while Eric Cockroft scored on a 35-yard run, Joel McCurdy a 9-yard run and Sean Miller a 21-yard pass from Chance Roddy.
With Angola leading 38-0, Braxton Gray scored Wawasee’s lone touchdown.
The Hornets will play No. 12 NorthWood, a 54-3 winner over DeKalb, in the sectional semifinals.
The other semifinal game in the loaded sectional will feature Culver Academies, tied in the final poll with NorthWood, and No. 11 East Noble.
Culver Academies beat fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Northridge 35-13, while East Noble edged Plymouth 14-13.
