CULVER – Warsaw senior Mia Beckham emerged as the individual girls champion for the third straight year, and Warsaw’s boys and girls cross country teams each won championships at the Culver Academies Regional Saturday.
Beckham’s time of 19:04 was 34 seconds faster than runner-up Madison Winegardner of Maconaquah. Emma Bohnenkamper was fourth in 19:59, Carmen Yoder 16th in 21:08, Angie Sanchez–Vijil 17th in 21:11 and Taylor Gunter 21st in 21:28. The regional title was the fifth straight for the Lady Tigers.
Warsaw’s boys team placed all five scoring runners in the top 12 to beat host Culver Academies by 50 points for the regional title.
Lucas Howett was third overall in 16:40, and Taylor Mills was fifth in 17:02. Xavi Ramirez was seventh in 17:15, Justin Fleming 10th in 17:24 and Nathaniel Gottschalk was 12th in 17:29.
Manchester’s boys team advanced to Saturday’s semistate at New Prairie with a fifth-place finish. Lance Bennett was 13th in 17:34, and freshman Carter Bedke was 19th in 17:59. Ben Reichenbach was 30th in 18:25, Montgomery Pattison 49th in 18:50 and Reece Adamiec was 61st in 19:15.
The Lady Squires saw Jaelyn Webb and Torina Runkel advance to semistate as individuals, with the team finishing in seventh place. Webb was eighth in 20:21 and Runkel 12th in 20:47. Katie Barker was 43rd for Manchester in 22:37, Maddy Evans 67th in 23:42 and Anna Markham was 78th in 24:36.
Tippecanoe Valley senior Jordan Owens qualified for the boys semistate race by finishing among the top 10 runners not on an advancing team. Owens was 15th overall in 17:15.
Runners advancing from the Culver Academies Regional will run in the New Prairie Semistate races Saturday, with the girls race at 11 a.m. Eastern time and the boys starting an hour later.
Warrior Boys Advance At Elkhart Central Regional
DUNLAP – Wawasee’s boys cross country team won a tiebreaker for fourth place over Goshen at the Elkhart Central Regional cross country race Saturday at Ox Bow Park.
Luke Griner finished in 12th place for the Warriors in 16:38. Spencer Hare was 19th in 16:50, Michael Hammer 34th in 17:27, Jace Alexander 48th in 17:41 and Braxton Alexander 49th in 17:43.
McKenzie Smith will represent the Lady Warriors at semistate by virtue of her 18th-place finish in 20:26. Wawasee’s girls finished ninth in the team standings.
Wawasee runners will compete in the New Haven semistate on the IPFW campus in Fort Wayne on Saturday, The girls race will begin at 1 p.m., and the boys race will be about 45 minutes later.
