Wawasee Brings Home War-Hawk TrophyGOSHEN – Wawasee became the first school to host the War-Hawk trophy with its 20-0 Northern Lakes Conference football victory at Goshen Friday night.
The shutout was Wawasee’s first since Aug. 19, 2016, a 13-0 win over South Bend Washington. It was the Warriors’ first blanking of a conference opponent since a 31-0 win over Warsaw on Oct. 1, 2004.
The War-Hawk trophy replaced the Chief, which was retired when Goshen changed its mascot after the 2015 football season.
Alec Rosbrugh rushed for 214 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown for Wawasee, and had a 51-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Hepler in the first quarter. Jacob Hand had 83 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown, and also completed a pair of passes. Wawasee’s Aaron Evans also completed two passes in the game.
The Warriors outrushed the RedHawks 206-85 and had 18 first downs to Goshen’s eight.
Wawasee completes the regular season with a 3-6 record and earned sole possession of sixth place in the conference at 2-5. The Warriors open Class 4A sectional play at fifth-ranked and unbeaten Angola Friday.
