The “Cardiac Kids” struck again on Saturday for Grace College’s men’s soccer team. Marcelo Talamas sent the Lancers to the Crossroads League Tournament finals with a bicycle kick goal in the 89th minute, electrifying the 1st Source Bank Field crowd. The Lancers struck twice in the second half to beat Goshen 2-1 in the tournament semifinals, continuing what has become a magical season for Grace. Grace will travel to No. 21 Spring Arbor on Nov. 11 for the championship game. With a win at Spring Arbor, Grace would earn its second trip in program history to the NAIA National Championships.
Grace’s cross country team enjoyed the pinnacle of its season with the 2017 Crossroads League Championships on Saturday. The men’s team placed sixth out of 10 teams, and the women were ninth. Sam Hall led Grace’s team. He finished in 21st place in a time of 27:24. Elijah Brooks had a personal-best time of 27:37, and Ben Rankin was 15 seconds behind him. Drew Jones’s 28:12 was fourth for Grace, Brendan Hamilton finished in 28:34, and John Marhefka (29:01) and Matt Halbakken (29:03) were in a tight pack. Tim Drew was the final runner for Grace.
Grace College’s men’s basketball team wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 92-83 victory over Governors State on Saturday. Matt Jennings enjoyed a breakout game with 23 points to lead all players, and Erik Bowen, who was named the Tournament MVP, scored 20 points with four rebounds. The first half was an offensive barrage with the teams combining for 101 points. GSU jumped ahead early 10-3 thanks to two early 3-pointers. Grace battled back to tie the game at 14-14, and the score remained close for the rest of the half. Late in the half, Grace fell behind 45-40 before rallying with a late charge. Jennings scored in the paint, then forced a turnover to free up Haden Deaton for an emphatic fastbreak dunk.
Grace College’s volleyball team bested Huntington for the third time this season with a 3-1 victory in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals. The Lady Lancers (21-14) showcased an impressive offensive barrage, led by 56 assists in four sets by Alexa Hill. Grace hit at a .296 percentage as a team, owning a 61-44 advantage in kills overall on Saturday. Sierra Smith enjoyed a career-high evening, tying a personal record with 21 kills on a sizzling .500 percentage. Kelsee Zuidema racked up 15 kills at a .355 rate.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A program-record seven three-pointers by Brooke Sugg led Grace College’s women’s basketball team to its first win of the 2017-18 season against Judson University on Friday night.
Emalee Duggins had a team-high 19 points and Anna Ousley added 12 points for Whitko in its 46-42 girls basketball season-opening loss at Fort Wayne North Side Friday night. Kayla Schipper had five points and 10 rebounds, and Lizz Fouts contributed four points and eight boards for the Lady Wildcats. After playing to a 14-all tie in the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats forged a 22-16 halftime advantage. The Lady Legends then scored 18 points in the third period to take a two-point lead into the final quarter.
Tippecanoe Valley held a 13-4 lead after the first quarter and went on to a 46-33 win over Bremen in the girls basketball season opener for both teams Thursday night. Sophie Bussard led the Lady Vikings with 19 points, including a 7-of-9 effort from the free throw line. Addy Miller made a trio of three-point shots on her way to an 11-point night, and Emily Peterson had nine for Valley. Miller had a team-high eight rebounds.
Kabrea Rostochak had 17 points and Hannah-Marie Lamle added nine for Wawasee in its 47-36 girls basketball season-opening loss to Mishawaka Marian Thursday night at the Hardwood Tepee.
Tippecanoe Valley’s athletic department presented its fall athletic awards this week.

Grace College's volleyball team earned its second straight sweep in its last regular season game at Goshen on Wednesday night. The Lady Lancers (20-14, 12-6 Crossroads League) had to go above and beyond to earn the victory as two of the three games went into extra points. Grace's defense was the key to the game as they held the Maple Leafs to just a .095 percentage; this included giving up only three kills the entire second set. Grace's attack was running at high efficiency during the first set, finishing with a .220 percentage. The set consisted of several lead changes with three points being the highest advantage of the game. Late in the set, the Lady Lancers were trailing 22-19. Things looked bleak until Naarah Foster scored four uninterrupted points during a 5-0 Grace run.
Grace College’s men’s soccer team added another chapter to a storybook season with a come-from-behind win on Wednesday. The Lancers trailed 1-0 entering the last five minutes of regulation against Mt. Vernon Nazarene in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals. But late heroics from Cody Boerema and Nikola Djordjevic gave Grace a thrilling 2-1 overtime win at 1st Source Bank Field, sending the Lancers to the semifinals of the CL Tournament. The Lancers (10-4-4) will host Goshen on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals. The winner will play in the league championship on Nov. 11 with a chance to claim an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.

In the girls race Warsaw senior Mia Beckham finished 45th in 19:00.1. The winner of the race was Emma Wilson of Greencastle, who covered the course in 17:45.9, nearly 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Phoebe Cates of Carmel.
