Local Runners Compete At State Cross Country MeetTERRE HAUTE – Three runners from the Times-Union coverage area competed in the IHSAA state cross country meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course Saturday.
In the girls race Warsaw senior Mia Beckham finished 45th in 19:00.1. The winner of the race was Emma Wilson of Greencastle, who covered the course in 17:45.9, nearly 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Phoebe Cates of Carmel.
Zionsville won the team title with 118 points, placing three runners in the top 20. Carroll was second with 129 points and Carmel finished third with 169 points. Northridge, a member of the Northern Lakes Conference, was 23rd in the team race. Jenna Miller led the Lady Raiders, finishing 65th in 19:12.
In the boys race, Warsaw senior Lucas Howett was 83rd in 16:29.8, and Wawasee junior Luke Griner finished 117th in 16:42.4. Hamilton Southeastern’s Gabe Fendel won the race in 15:17.2, edging Indianapolis Cathedral junior Cole Hocker by 2.3 seconds. Slylar Stidam of Christian Academy of Indiana finished third in 15:23.8.
Carmel won the boys team title with 94 points. The Greyhounds had four runners in the top 20. Fishers was second with 152 points, and Westview was third at 171 points.
