NORTH WEBSTER – Samuel W. Israel, 51, Warsaw, passed away on Jan. 19, 2017, at his home.  Arrangements are pending at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster.  

Barbara Ann Hart, 67, North Manchester, died at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 20, 2017, at Kosciusko Community Hospital. She was born July 20, 1949, in Wabash, to William S. and Ann P. Garris Bumgardner. On Jan. 16, 1971, she married Robert Hart. He survives. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with calling one hour prior, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W, North Manchester. Pastor David Wust will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Dan L. Hyde, 51, passed away Jan. 20, 2017, in Fort Wayne.  Born in Gary, he graduated from Warsaw High School, and later received his master's degree from Indiana University. He worked with Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne for 10 years. 

DeMOTTE — Norma Jean Harmon, 72, Warsaw, formerly of Wheatfield, passed away Jan. 21, 2017, at Aperion Care of DeMotte. She was born in East Chicago on Sept. 22, 1944, the daughter of Samual and Mable Durflinger DeArmond. She was a graduate of Hammond Technical High School, class of 1962. 

Jean Ann Hopkins passed away at 6:16 a.m. Jan. 19, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. She was 50 years old.  Born on Jan. 11, 1967, she was the daughter of John Sr. and Carol Teeple Stump. She was a 1985 graduate of Wawasee High School, Syracuse. On June 23, 1989, she was married to Victor Hopkins in Clunette United Methodist Church. The two have shared 31 years together; he survives in Pierceton.

Paul M. “Mike” Berger, 69, Warsaw, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 20, 2017, in his residence. On Nov. 12, 1947, he was born in Warsaw to Paul and Mary Adelaine Sponseller Berger. He was united in marriage to Linda Burnett on Dec. 21, 1979, in Warsaw. She survives.

Leslie David Bullers, 67, Warsaw, passed away at 10:26 p.m. Jan. 20, 2017, in his residence.  He was born Dec. 10, 1949, in Warsaw, to Jack and Mary Boyer Bullers.  A lifetime Warsaw resident, he was employed by Cardinal Services of Warsaw. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and was a friend to all those he met. Survivors include his sisters, Vicki S. Miller, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Toni M. Shafer, Greenfield; an aunt, Jeannie Boyer, Warsaw; caregivers: Robert Green; Tom and Laura Reese; and Evan, Lilly and Devan Reese, all of Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded by his parents; an uncle, Richard “Dick” Boyer; and an aunt, Esther Prater. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service. Chaplain Bob Jarboe will officiate the services. ROCHESTER – David A. Tomich, 60, Bremen, passed away at 2:19 p.m. Jan. 19, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka.

COLUMBIA CITY — John Smith Wilson, M.D., 85, Columbia City, passed away Jan. 12, 2017, at The Hearth at Sycamore Village.

Shirley Swartz,, 81, Warsaw, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Jan. 18, 2017, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. On March 6, 1935, she was born in Warsaw, to John and Lillian Heisler Pifer. She was united in marriage to John R. Swartz on June 30, 1966, in Warsaw. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1997. A lifetime resident of Warsaw, she was a graduate of Warsaw High School, class of 1953. She worked for Warsaw Community High School as the cafeteria manager and food service. She retired in 2011.  She was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where she was also on the church board. She was a very sociable person and was active with the Salvation Army, volunteered at the police academy and was on the board at Wagon Wheel Theater, Warsaw. She is survived by two daughters, Tara (spouse Jason) Strickler, Warsaw, and Erika (spouse Greg) Hollar, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Blake, Chandler and Taylor Strickler, and Levi and Zoey Hollar; her sister, Helen Petro, Asheville, N.C.; her brother, Robert Pifer, Nappanee; and several nephews and nieces.  She was also preceded by her parents. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Chaplain Forrest Tabor officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Neva Lucille O’Connor, 58, Fort Wayne, formerly of Syracuse and North Webster, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Jan. 18, 2017, at Parkview Randalia Hospital, Fort Wayne.  She was born Nov. 11, 1958, in Columbia City, to Maurice R. and Donna L. Rockwell Snyder.

Robert David Kissell, born May 8, 1935, in South Bend, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, to arrive for his next tee time in joining the Lord’s foursome in heaven on Jan. 18, 2017. 

Jean Hopkins, 50, Pierceton, died Jan. 19, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. Arrangements are pending at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.  

 Joanne Vera Holbrook passed away in Kosciusko Community Hospital in the early hours of Jan. 19, 2017. She was 86 years old.  On Sept. 24, 1930, she was born to Dale Babcock and Vera Cartwright in Warsaw. It was here, in Warsaw, where she would spend most of her adult life and where she would marry Richard Holbrook Sr. 

Vern E. Hershberger, 78, Nappanee, passed away peacefully at his home at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 19, 2017, after a long illness.  He was born June 19, 1938, in Goshen, to Ezra and Katie Yoder Hershberger. On Sept. 3, 1959, he married Rachel Miller. She survives. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

 , Beth Ann Gill, 55, Warsaw, passed away at 3:02 p.m. Jan. 18, 2017, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.  She was born March 3, 1961, in Plymouth, and was the daughter of Mike and Sue Lemert Gill. She was a lifetime Warsaw resident and retired from Marsh Supermarket, Warsaw, after serving in the bakery department as a cake decorator. She attended St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.

Vanetta A. “Peg” Garber, 90, Warsaw, passed away at 4 a.m. Jan. 19, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.  She was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Norcatur, Kan., to Erhard and Eulalah Chappel Rydquist. She graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1944. On Sept. 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Albert C. “Gabby” Garber, who preceded her in death March 8, 2009.

Billy R. Osborne,passed away at 9:28 p.m. Jan. 14, 2017, in Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Dewy and Julia Tussey Osborne, who both preceded him in death. He married Linda L. Rapp on March 10, 1961, in Michigan.

Janice E. Fisher, 70, Greenfield, passed away on Jan. 8, 2017, in Indianapolis.  She was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Marion, to Robert and Barbara Stover. 

ROCHESTER — Jacquelynn Wiersema, 61, Rochester, formerly of Silvis, Ill., passed away Jan. 16, 2017, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.  She was born Dec. 6, 1955, in Moline, Ill., to Jess H. and Cleo O. Hernandez Belman. She married Dennis Wiersema on Dec. 30, 1977, in East Moline, Ill.  A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. MENTONE — David M. Pursifull, 75, rural Rochester, died at 11 a.m. Jan. 17, 2017, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester. He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Huntington County, to Cedric and Velta Redman Pursifull. On April 30, 1983, in Tallmadge, Mich., he married Wilma N. Bosscher, who survives. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Rod Ruberg officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery. PLYMOUTH — Roger L. Emmons Sr., 79, passed away in his home surrounded by his family at 4:40 p.m. Jan. 17, 2017. He was born Aug. 17, 1937, in LaPaz, to Karl “Bill” and Julia E. Taylor Emmons. He graduated from LaPaz High School with the class of 1955. He served our country in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Brooks Butler, 65, Warsaw, passed away at 8 a.m. Jan. 18, 2017, in his residence. On March 20, 1951, he was born in Warsaw to Frank C. and Barbara Joan Norris Butler. He was united in marriage to Angie Norris on Sept. 9, 1989, in Warsaw; she survives.

SYRACUSE — Marjorie M. Kleinknight Cox, 99, Goshen, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 12:55 a.m. Jan. 17, 2017, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen.  She was born May 2, 1917, in Uniondale, to Van A. and Clellah Cupp Barrick. On Aug. 30, 1935, in Angola, she married Edwin A. “Ed” Kleinknight, who preceded her in 1971. In 1974, she married J. Barton Cox, who preceded her in 1975.
