COLUMBIA CITY — John Smith Wilson, M.D., 85, Columbia City, passed away Jan. 12, 2017, at The Hearth at Sycamore Village. He was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Columbia City, the son of Wilfred and Beulah Smith Wilson. He was a doctor for 36 years in the Columbia City community, specializing in family medicine and anesthesiology. He was one of the charter Whitley County representatives for the planning and conception of the Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services in Warsaw in 1959 and served on the board of directors for many years. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; and his daughters: Cathy (spouse Donald) Hunter and Kimberly (spouse Chris) Egolf; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a sister. A memorial service in John’s honor is being planned at Dunfee Missionary Church. Burial will take place at Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.
