Shirley Swartz, 81, Warsaw, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Jan. 18, 2017, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. On March 6, 1935, she was born in Warsaw, to John and Lillian Heisler Pifer. She was united in marriage to John R. Swartz on June 30, 1966, in Warsaw. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1997. A lifetime resident of Warsaw, she was a graduate of Warsaw High School, class of 1953. She worked for Warsaw Community High School as the cafeteria manager and food service. She retired in 2011. She was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw, where she was also on the church board. She was a very sociable person and was active with the Salvation Army, volunteered at the police academy and was on the board at Wagon Wheel Theater, Warsaw. She is survived by two daughters, Tara (spouse Jason) Strickler, Warsaw, and Erika (spouse Greg) Hollar, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Blake, Chandler and Taylor Strickler, and Levi and Zoey Hollar; her sister, Helen Petro, Asheville, N.C.; her brother, Robert Pifer, Nappanee; and several nephews and nieces. She was also preceded by her parents. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Chaplain Forrest Tabor officiating.
