Kosciuszko was a hero of Poland and America. With a military background, he came to America to assist in the Revolutionary War against the British. He became friends with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and helped build the military fortification at West Point. For his service to America, Kosciuszko was awarded U.S. citizenship.
