A Warsaw man was arrested on domestic battery charges after allegedly leaving his victim with blood on her clothes.

Zachary Darryn Johnson, 27, of 614 E. Main St., Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:37 p.m. Sept. 23 for domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16. His preliminary bond was set at $6,250.

Court documents filed Monday list the charges against Johnson as domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Warsaw Police officer Miles Reichard responded to a domestic dispute on Sept. 23, with three other WPD officers assisting. When they arrived at the scene, they talked with the victim who had blood on her shirt and pants and was holding an ice pack to her face. Her nose was swollen and her face was red.

The victim said she and Johnson were arguing when she said something that caused Johnson to hit her in the face numerous times.

Officers spoke with Johnson at his mother’s home. He said that while he and the victim were arguing, she hit him on the face and he responded by hitting her back on the face. He admitted he had been drinking and handled the situation poorly, according to court documents.

A witness told officers she saw Johnson drag the victim back inside the house and hit her in the face.

Another person told police he did not witness the confrontation but heard screaming and went outside and saw Johnson leave the residence. He said when he saw the victim, he could see injuries to her face and she told him she had been hit by Johnson.

A 2-year-old was in the home during the physical confrontation.

A no contact order between Johnson and the victim was entered Monday.

An initial hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. Oct. 18 in Kosciusko County Superior Court III.
