Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:I watched with interest the continual unfolding of the soap opera "Life With Mitch."

- Demo Walkout Demo Walkout Editor Times-Union, I am so sick of our elected legislators walking out of The Indiana General Assembly or United States Congress when things are not going their way during sessions, I could just scream. To be fair, I will agree that both sides have been accused of doing this, but I just want to point out that the Democrat Party seems to have this practice written in it's handbook as policy for the way they conduct business. I will respect your right to voice your opinion, but do so in an honorable fashion. My seven-year-old son has more maturity when he does not get his way than these so-called leaders.Thank you for letting me vent my frustrations.

Editor, Times-Union:Last Friday night we went to the music program being held at Center Lake Park.

- God Is Love - Lines Blurred - Lawmaker Resigns - What Would Jesus Drive? - Created Equal God Is Love Editor, Times-Union: This is something that I need to say.The GSA needs to hear this too. There was a man that died in 1997.A man whose life meant a lot to so many.He was not only a great musician but someone who knew the Bible very well. His name was Rich Mullins.(Rich was from Lynn, Ind.).Rich was a friend of my family in one way or another. He worked at one time with my brother and was best friends with my cousin. He was also my counselor for two years at a church conference that I would attend as a teenager. We all learned a lot from his life.

Editor, Times-Union:This letter is for Rick Badman and others who oppose abortion. What a woman decides to do is none of your business or mine. She has her reasons.

Editor, Times-Union:Mr. Eisenbraun, I find your public discourse letter addressed to Gary to be absolutely amazing.

Editor, Times-Union:Last week, the County Council passed the $25 surtax and $40 wheel tax to raise about $1.77 million per year for the Kosciusko County Highway Department to repair our roads.

- Whitaker For Sheriff - One America - Jackson Township Whitaker For Sheriff Editor, Times-Union: We, as former (and present) prosecuting attorneys of Kosciusko County, are aware of the critical importance of the sheriff to good law enforcement.Obviously, good police work is essential to obtaining the evidence necessary to prosecute a case in court. In addition, a good sheriff also provides the judicial system with that intangible "sense of the community" which is essential to the proper exercise of prosecutorial and judicial discretion. Kosciusko County has been blessed for years with several exceptional sheriffs. It is easy to take this blessing for granted, but it must be preserved by making wise choices among sheriff candidates.

- Importance Of Writing - Storm Thanks - Lakeview Triathlon - Half-Cocked Importance Of Writing Editor, Times-Union: I noticed a recent news report that Indiana students had difficulty with writing exams in the latest National Assessment of Educational Progress tests. It has been my pleasure over the years as U.S.Senator to read many well-written letters from young Hoosiers.Often it was apparent that the letters were written as school assignments and were probably graded by teachers, but I have found them to be a helpful window into the minds and opinions of young citizens.

Editor, Times-Union:The winner of District 22 will serve a two-year term, paying him a salary of more than $24,000 plus benefits for a part-time job.

Editor, Times-Union:Now that Memorial Day is past, once more my thoughts turn to what dead military people would say if they were able.

- 'Echoes' Thanks - Antiques Roadshow - Unpopular War 'Echoes' Thanks Editor, Times-Union: The members of the "Echoes of the Past" (tractor club) would like to thank all that visited our display at the Kosciusko County Fair.We registered 65 farm tractors, 22 lawn tractors, four trucks, two steam engines, one hit and miss engine, one dyno, one John Deere earth mover and one 100-year-old "Oram" wagon, which had been made in Warsaw. In the parade on Sunday, we had 34 tractors, two lawn tractors and one truck. Jerry and Jackie Clase of "Old Days, Old Ways" had 20 exhibitors with 150 items displayed, which was of great interest to many spectators. On Tuesday evening, Steve Weissert from Bourbon and his band, "Sentimental Journey," performed for all to enjoy.

Editor, Times-Union:Aren't We Above This?

- KABS Frustration - Vote Them Out - Millennium Summit - MDA Telethon - Heat Dismissal KABS Frustration Editor, Times-Union: This letter is in response to Lesa Regenos' frustration with the KABS bus system.I too have a big problem with my city and state taxes being wasted on a bus system that refuses to help people.I thought that was their job, at least that is what they advertise, "Need a ride-call KABS Bus," what a joke! My granddaughter needs a ride to school, a five-minute trip from her babysitter's, but they say it will be two years before they can work her in their schedule.By the way, they waited until the day before school started to tell us this.

- Race Track - Bible Thumping - Christian Charity - Thanks To Theaters Race Track Editor, Times-Union: It seems as though it's that time of year to drag me through the rag once again.I have finally decided to set the record straight. My children are gone, and you no longer hold any power over me or my family. The track is gone forever. Now for some facts. 1.The most the track ever made was $800 in one year. This was told by the fair board to the Winona Lake Property Owners association.

I have to ask the Collins a couple of questions that I have wanted an answer for a long time, yet I have not received one:

FairTax Talk Tonight Editor, Times-Union: I look forward to providing information and encouraging questions about The FairTax (HR25)  at the local Kosciusko Silent No More http://www.kosciuskosilentnomore.com/Events.html tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at New Life Chistian Church & World Outreach, 744 S. 325E, Warsaw. (Map is on website calendar). When I presented a brief of The FairTax at the first TEA Party at the Court House, I said I was worried about the future of our country for my grandkids’ kids!  One year later I had to add my kids and myself into the equation. Now it almost seems like a daily crap-shoot as to maintaning our heritage and way of life. As one of the first “Boomers” I have witnessed many changes in America and we need to “Stop Penalizing Success”.  Your Weekend News Business section of March 12-13 had an interesting commentary by Scott Burns “Looking For Ways To Fix A Broken System”  Amazing, he said a “Totally New Tax System”  was one of his suggestions.  He provided a good summary of the FairTax and a link to www.fairtax.org.  I also agree with his positions on health care reform and term limits for politicians, but those are for other events. The Fairtax is a Non-Partisan solution (even Lanny Davis said it was worth discussing  in an article on Huffington Post website).  Come on out and lets have a discussion.  Ron Heilman, former state director for The FairTax will be on hand to assist. Thank you. Adrian Messer Jr. Silver Lake Editor, Times-Union: I look forward to providing information and encouraging questions about The FairTax (HR25)  at the local Kosciusko Silent No More http://www.kosciuskosilentnomore.com/Events.html tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at New Life Chistian Church & World Outreach, 744 S. 325E, Warsaw. (Map is on website calendar).
