- Winona Alcohol - He's Sorry Winona Alcohol Editor, Times-Union: Regarding the alcohol at Winona Lake issue: To debate the merits of an additional liquor license(s) is pointless because the problems consumption of alcohol bring should be obvious to us all: 1) Alcohol has proven to be America's number one drug problem. 2) Medical science has determined a genetic "predisposition" toward alcoholism as high as 30 percent (Why would anyone want to play this version of Russian Roulette?). 3) Alcohol consumption is the direct and indirect cause of many serious family problems., such as spouse abuse, incest, bankruptcy, divorce, etc. 4) It is right up near the top of the list as the cause of most traffic accidents and fatalities.

Editor, Times-Union:There have been a number of Warsaw Times-Union articles about the Kosciusko County law enforcement officers receiving a $31,000 Operation Pullover grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and how the Warsaw Police Department, along with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, have been on an enforcement blitz to crack down on drivers not wearing seat belts. These grants are provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Editor, Times-Union:While our Congress and Senate continue the debate on how to cut the funding for our troops fighting in Iraq, the subject of immigration no longer seems to be the focus today by either our politicians or the news media. Does this mean that the problem has been resolved? Or, could it be that our politicians know that immigration is a hot topic, which they cannot fix, and choose purposely to avoid the issue all together? Why? Has our news media stopped pounding the doors of our elected officials on Capital Hill on this subject?

Editor, Times-Union:This is the first of my series of letters dealing with the common characteristics of pure communism, which is the ideology of such past and present regimes such as the Soviet Union and its Eastern European allies, Red China, Vietnam, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Castro's Cuba, etc.

Editor, Times-Union: “Can’t we all just get along”? Who really cares whether it’s right or wrong, conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, pro-life or pro-choice ... absolute or relative? Should a conciliatory sometimes confused news general manager care (Sept. 3, p. 1A) or a political party-hopping lawyer (Oct. 3, p.5A)? Attorney and President Abe Lincoln cared as did our founding fathers.

Editor, Times-Union:I was amused by Lonnie Slone's article in the "Letters to the Editor" relating to the "show ID" requirements in the USA.

- LRC Petition - Sacred Institutions - Variance Opposed - School Security LRC Petition Editor, Times-Union: If LRC Products' "use variance" petition for Rolling Hills Subdivision which is before the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals is approved, why have a City Planner.

Editor, Times-Union:We’re $16 trillion in debt caused by the two-party system in Washington. What is worse is that neither of them have an actual plan to lower the debt because both support an illegal Federal Reserve that controls our money and creates the economic cycle that effects everyone.

Editor, Times-Union: I am surprised that there was a response from Rep. Wolkins regarding Mr. McClarnon’s letter to the editor about him. I was wondering if Rep. Wolkins responded to any of his constituents since I have yet to receive a response from him. I have emailed Rep. Wolkins numerous times in the last few months with no response. I have a few questions for him.

One of the reasons you hear about needing health care reform is the "skyrocketing costs." So this Administration says it has to be done now.

- Grow Hemp - Church And State - Pops Concert - Christian Soldiers Grow Hemp Editor, Times-Union: This letter is prompted by an article in the Times-Union, July 6, page 8A, concerning the spraying of ditch weed. I am so tired of the stupidity, especially coming from the state police department, who should know that hemp and marijuana are not the same. They wasted $13 million of taxpayer money last year and are planning to do the same this year, spraying ditch weed.Ditch weed is what is left from when hemp was grown abundantly during World Wars I and II for the purpose of making rope, some of which can still be found hanging in old barns.
