Having dropped two games earlier this week to two ranked teams in Carroll and Penn, the Warsaw volleyball team shifted focus back to Northern Lakes Conference play on Thursday evening as they traveled to Syracuse to take on rival Wawasee. It was smooth sailing for the Lady Tigers in this one, as they picked up a 3-0 victory to get back in the win column and stay perfect in the NLC.

The rivalry between the Warsaw and Wawasee football teams has gotten a bit lopsided in recent years, with the Tigers having one each of the last eleven games against the Warriors. That streak was extended to 12 on Friday night, as Warsaw brought the W trophy onto the bus to Syracuse, and took it back home with them after a 38-7 win moved the team to 5-0.

Mark Osmialowski was on the staffs of the past three Wawasee High School head football coaches — Mike Eshbach, Jon Reutebuch and Matt Thacker. After eight seasons as a Warriors assistant, Osmialowski is now the man in charge.

For the second time in a week, track and field athletes from all over Northern Indiana converged with a spot in the state finals on the line. This time, it was the boys' turn with Warsaw hosting the festivities. With over 40 athletes from five local schools in attendance, there was no shortage of action. When the dust settled, seven of those competitors were able to punch their tickets to the state finals.

The girls track and field season continued its race towards the finish line on Tuesday evening, with 39 area athletes from all seven local schools competing at the IHSAA Regional 2 at Goshen. It was a largely successful night, with eight of those athletes punching their ticket to the state finals.

With Memorial Day fast approaching, it is sectional season for spring sports in Indiana. Beginning postseason play on Tuesday was girls track and field, with three local schools representing the area at Warsaw’s Fisher Field. Seven total records were set, but the end result was the same as usual: The Lady Tigers’ 112.50 points edged out Elkhart by 12.50 as the hosts claimed yet another sectional championship.

Looking to turn the corner after three straight losses over the weekend, the Warsaw baseball team made it two wins in a row on Wednesday with a 20-5 victory on the road at Wawasee. The Tiger bats came alive in the victory, scoring runs in every single inning in what was a dominant showing that was led by a seven-RBI performance by Kael Miller.

The pitching was fantastic for the Warsaw baseball team on Monday night, as the Tigers hosted Wawasee to begin Northern Lakes Conference play. Striking out 10 Warrior hitters, Warsaw took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of a game they won 6-1.

Down 3-0 before even stepping to the plate, the Wawasee softball team found itself in the hole early on Friday night at home against Manchester. From that point on, the Lady Warriors were able to put together an offensive masterclass, tallying 14 hits and eleven runs in a 11-7 victory.

Down 3-0 before taking the plate for the first time, the Whitko baseball team had to come from behind to continue its hot start to the season on Tuesday night, rallying to defeat Wawasee 11-3 at home in a four-inning game that was shortened due to weather and lighting. Through five games this season, the Wildcats have scored double digit runs in each of them.

Being a varsity basketball player in the state of Indiana requires hard work and dedication. This past season, no player on the boys side demonstrated that more than Warsaw guard Mydin Burgher, who has been named the Times Union’s 2025-26 Player of the Year for boys basketball.

NorthWood flexed its defensive muscles and Wawasee saw its 2025-26 boys basketball season come to a close Friday, March 6 in the semifinals of Class 3A Columbia City Sectional 20.

The first night of the Indiana boys basketball tournament pit two local teams against each other on Tuesday night, as Wawasee and Tippecanoe Valley met at Columbia City’s Birdcage. The Warriors led for a majority of the game, and while the Vikings were able to keep things from getting out of hand, it was Wawasee advancing with a 49-38 win.

Wawasee boys basketball coach Joe Luce is no longer holding his post, effective immediately, the school announced in a press release Tuesday morning.

Not having suffered a loss since November, the Whitko girls basketball team traveled to Syracuse Thursday night to take on Wawasee in the regular season finale for both teams. It was a slow start, but eventually the Lady ‘Cats got into a rhythm and there was no stopping them from there. The team heads into sectional winners of 20 straight after a 67-22 victory.

Winners of nine of their last 10 games, the Wawasee boys basketball team looked to defend the Hardwood Teepee against Bethany Christian on Tuesday night. Playing some great basketball lately, that trend continued as the Warriors played nearly flawlessly in a 63-40 win headlined by 32 points from center Stephen Akase.

Boys and Girls basketball and Boys and Girls wrestling

The rivalry between the Warsaw and Wawasee boys basketball programs often has the distinction of beginning Northern Lakes Conference play for both sides. Friday night’s matchup at the Tiger Den was no different. In what was a low-scoring contest that was downright ugly at times, it was the Warriors leaving town with a statement 42-33 victory.

My brain has been more tired than usual, and around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, I was sitting at my desk – the last person in one of the plants where I work – unable to formulate a thought nor begin another task.
