Wawasee Named Red Wagon School District For Support Of Riley

Posted

Wawasee Community School Corporation announced its designation as a Red Wagon School District by Riley Children’s Foundation, a distinction awarded to fewer than 20 schools across the state of Indiana.
This recognition comes in honor of the impact made by 2024 Wawasee High School alumni Emma Young and Jaci Worrell, whose work with the Kehoe Kids Project has raised more than $35,000 since its inception. On Friday, May 16, the two were honored at Riley Children’s Hospital for their lasting contributions.
Their efforts began as fourth-graders and continued through their senior year, leaving behind a legacy that continues to touch lives, according to a news release from WCSC. During their visit to the Riley Library, Emma and Jaci were able to see firsthand the Kehoe Cart — a mobile resource purchased with funds from their very first campaign year. That cart now accounts for over 45% of the library’s total circulation, delivering joy and learning across the hospital.
The Kehoe Kids Project has helped fund:
• Learning kits for the emergency department
• STEM activities in the Riley Library
• Activity resources for teens
• Seed funding for a dedicated learning coordinator
Their final contribution, made in January, officially earned Wawasee Community School Corporation the Red Wagon designation, celebrating a school district whose commitment to service, compassion and community goes far beyond the classroom, the release states.
“Emma and Jaci represent the very best of what it means to be a Warrior,” said Geoff Walmer, Wawasee High School principal. “Their compassion, leadership and long-term impact reflect the values we hope to inspire in all our students.”
