BOURBON – Triton School Corporation announced it received a scholarship donation from the Charles and Glendora Compton Trust.
The donation of $188,611 is to be used for post-secondary scholarships to trade training programs. Triton will begin distributing these scholarships at the end of the 2017-18 school year, according to a news release from the school corporation.
Glendora Compton set up a trust 20 years ago in honor of her husband on the occasion of his death. Charles was born and raised in Bourbon on 8th Road. Glendora was from Etna Green.
Charles wrote a book, “I Remember Bourbon,” and donated the proceeds from the sale of that book to the Triton Athletic Department because he was a fan of Triton athletics.
Charles had served in the armed forces during World War II and was a part of the Battle of the Bulge. He had a collection of military memorabilia that included his uniform, a German uniform jacket, German helmet, German medals and money. He gave school presentations about the war with these items.
Charles worked as a salesman for an RV company. He believed every student was not meant for college but thought every child should be able to train for a future career. It is to this cause that the trust donated the $188,611 to Triton School Corporation to be used for student scholarships for post-secondary trade training programs.
