SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council reminded residents of the TextMyGov system, which allows residents to easily contact town employees and to receive alerts via text message.
Anyone can register for the TextMyGov notifications by scanning the QR code inside the clerk's office or by texting "South Whitley" to 91896.
In new business, South Whitley Community Public Library children's librarian Jen Engle asked if Maple Street between Front and Columbia, between the library and the post office, could be closed in the morning on Saturday, June 7 for the library's summer reading program kickoff.
The street closure was approved from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day; the post office is open until 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays but will be accessible to customers from the north side of Front Street.
Council also heard from Ross Walker, who owns the old laundromat at 102 S. State St., regarding a utility bill adjustment for an ongoing sewer leak that has been fixed. Council approved a $1,675.61 adjustment.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. June 10.
