SYRACUSE – Shirley M. Apple, 98, of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, passed away at 10:25 a.m.  Sept. 7, 2012.

She was born July 2, 1914, near Summit Chapel, Bourbon, to Artie B. and Fern E. Eaglebarger Coar. On Dec. 4, 1933, she married Herschell O. Apple, who died Jan. 29, 1976.

She was a 1932 graduate of Tippecanoe High School. Formerly of the Bourbon and Tippecanoe areas, upon her retirement she and Herschell moved to Sarasota, Fla, where she was a member of the Methodist Church and later moved to Sebring, Fla., where she belonged to St. John’s Methodist Church. Returning to Marshall County in 2008, she became a member of Bourbon First United Methodist Church. She farmed all her life along with her husband and worked for Delp Electric. She was a very active person belonging to the Order of the Eastern Star as past matron, past mother advisor for Rainbow Girls, past regent of the Daughters of American Revolution, a member of the United Methodist Women for more than 77 years and past president of Marshall County Federation of Clubs. Over the years she was active in and taught Sunday school in Summit Chapel Methodist Church, the Summit Chapel Ladies Aid, and Tippecanoe Home Economics Club. She was a member of the first Blueberry committee and even attended the parade this past Monday. She enjoyed crocheting and watching her grandchildren in their sports events.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol (and spouse  Richard) Steele, Cullman, Ala., and  Karen (and spouse  Richard) Delp, Plymouth; 12 grandchildren: Michael (and spouse Judy) Delp, Don Wendel, Debi (and spouse Mark) Gidley, David (and spouse Pam) Delp, all of Plymouth; Marcelo Suvelza, South Bend; Connie (and spouse Mitch) Jolin, Anchorage, Alaska; Scott Ammerman, New Zealand; Brett (and spouse Maria)  Ammerman, Parker, Colo.; Curtt (and spouse Kristina)  Kershner Ammerman, Los Alamos, N.M.; and Kandi Davis, Monti Apple and Heidi (and spouse John) Music, all of Bourbon; 35 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael “Hal” and Linda Apple; a granddaughter, Michele Wendel; a great-granddaughter, Krista Delp; a sister, Carol Louise; and a brother, Carlton Earl.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Burial will be in Summit Chapel Cemetery, Bourbon.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
