Sadie Whitaker Sheley, 78, of 1692 E. CR 200N, Lot 218, Warsaw, died at 5:03 p.m. Feb. 5, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Sayersville, Ky., to Kelly and Sally Shepherd Shepherd. In August 1998, she married Walter Sheley, who passed away in 2005.
She was a homemaker and longtime resident of the Warsaw area. She was a member of Living Hope Ministries, Warsaw. She loved to can vegetables, gardening, and was passionate about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are five daughters: Pauline (and spouse Leonard) Blankenship, Silver Lake; Deloris (and spouse Ervin) Bradley, Hamlet; Lorene (and spouse Jeff) Moore and Geraldine Slaymaker, all of Warsaw; and Mary (and spouse Ron) Coning, North Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Pat Whitaker, Huntington; four sons: the Rev. William (and spouse Lora) Whitaker, Warsaw; Jay (and spouse Cindy) Whitaker, North Manchester; the Rev. Frank (and spouse Lisa) Whitaker, Akron; Jerry Whitaker, Warsaw; 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vada (and spouse Wheeler) Conley and Nawassa Vires, all of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sons, the Rev. Wilbur Whitaker and Jessie D. Whitaker; five brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Living Hope Ministries, Warsaw, with Pastors Wayne and Taylor Whitaker officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
