Rudolph 'Rudy' John Cesco

SYRACUSE - Rudolph "Rudy" John Cesco, 79, died March 3, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, to Terzo and Rosa Cesco. He is survived by his wife, Martha.

He grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from Fort Wayne Central in 1948. After graduation he worked for Venetian Terrazzo, Los Angeles. From 1951-53, he served in the U.S. Army. After discharge from the Army, he attended Pasandena City College and USC. He returned to Indiana in 1965, and worked for Lebrato Brothers Construction, Fort Wayne. From 1968-70, he attended Ball State University, receiving a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in industrial education. He taught industrial arts at Wawasee High School from 1972-88. While at WHS he was the boys golf coach from 1972-88, and the girls golf coach from 1982-86. He served as president of the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association from 1981-83, and started the "Club for Kids" program in 1985. As golf coach, he began the Wawasee Golf Invitational in 1978, and was named the area boys golf coach of the year in 1985, and District 2 Coach of the Year in girls golf in 1986. He was inducted in to the IHSGCA Hall of Fame in 1988. After retiring from teaching and coaching in 1988, he became a golf instructor at the U.S. Golf Academy at Swan Lake, Plymouth. He will always be remembered for his love of sports especially Notre Dame football and I.U. basketball. His spare time evolved around duck hunting with his yellow labs and fishing.

Also surviving are a son, Randall (and spouse Krista) Cesco; and two granddaughters, Maria Rose and Kira Grace Cesco. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Josephine Colone, Anna Speicher and Mary Vail.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martins dePorres Catholic Church, Syracuse. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, with military honors.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
