A vehicle was hit during a shooting near Porter Street in Warsaw Monday evening. According to a news release from the Warsaw Police Department, at approximately 7:15 p.m. Monday, the WPD was dispatched to the area of the 400 block of West Porter Street for shots fired. Upon arrival, investigating officers discovered that a confrontation occurred between two parties.

Police determined that Jose Avila Jr., 21, of 221 N. Columbia St., apt. E, Warsaw, discharged a firearm multiple times, striking one of the vehicles. The driver of the vehicle was identified as David Castillejo Jr., 22, of 422 W. Porter St., Warsaw, who initially fled before returning gunfire. Anyone with information or may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the WPD's Investigations Division at 574-385-2210. All parties involved in the incident have been arrested on criminal recklessness with a firearm charges. Additional charges are being reviewed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, the news release states. This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no other information will be released at this time, according to the release. According to his booking information, Avila was initially booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:45 p.m. Monday on a bond of $10,250. Castillejo was booked into the jail at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday on a $10,250 bond. The WPD was assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Lake Police Department and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
