O. Eugene “Gene” England, 78, of Claypool, died at 2:37 a.m. April 27, 2012, in the residence of his son, Randy.

He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to George and Alkie Poe England. On June 7, 1955, he married Bonnie Lou Shoemaker, who died Feb. 11, 1991.

Living in Claypool for many years, he was an assistant manager of one of the Maple Leaf farms. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Randy (and spouse Sarah) England, Claypool, and Junior (and spouse Erma) England, Warsaw; a daughter, Connie Sheperd, Warsaw; two brothers, Elmer (and spouse Maggie) England, Warsaw, and James England, California; six grandchildren: Tracy Miller; Brandy, Jesica and Christan England; and Bonnie and Mika Shepherd; and 10 great-grandchildren: Demarcus, Kegan, Christan, Akashia, Kayla, Nick, Sydney, Jada, Krissa and Christopher. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Bill Lotchewood Sexton, who died in 1968; Vallis England, who died Nov. 5, 1979; Dallas England,  who died in 1967; and George England Jr., who died Aug. 26, 2006.

A graveside service will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, officiated by Chaplain Joe Stark of Nightingale Hospice.
