NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Town Council declined to give their opinion on a variance request during their meeting Tuesday.
Petitioners Billy and Jill Colwell are seeking a variance for 549 N. Fifth St. Town attorney Jack Birch said the variance request is for the construction of a new residence 3 feet, 6 inches from the side property line and 27 feet from the water’s edge, as well as allowing an existing deck to remain as constructed (without a permit) 17 feet from the water’s edge.
The petitioners were not present at the town council meeting.
Council President Dan Thystrup said his position was the matter was more up to the neighbors of the property and the Kosciusko County Zoning Board than the town council. Councilwoman Lisa Strombeck agreed. Councilman Dave Waliczek was absent.
Also, before the meeting, Thystrup gave an update on the trail from the northern town limits of North Webster to Wawasee Middle School. He said the town is applying for a Next Level Trail grant, which is an 80/20 grant.
In other business, the council:
• Was reminded the police department is holding an abandoned property sale. Bids will be received until 4 p.m. July 25 at the clerk-treasurer’s office. Bids will be opened July 26.
• Approved a road closure of Huntington Street from Main Street to Harrison Street between 9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. during Dixie Day July 29.
• Learned from Inframark Utilities Manager Mike Noe he and Clerk-Treasurer Leigh Ann Jessop are working on a Community Crossings Matching Grant application.
• Tabled a decision to accept a bid a chipper for $7,500. Noe said the bid came in after the large equipment auction was closed.
Birch asked if Noe could put the chipper up for auction online. The council approved for Noe to look into that.
