Newt Green III

MENTONE – Newt Green III, 67, Mentone, passed unexpectedly June 13, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 2, 1949, in Charleston, W.Va., to Newt and Alice Mae Mullins Green.
In earlier years, he worked as a dispatcher for the Warsaw Police Department, and in Georgia he was a gunsmith and worked in the sherriff's department in Atlanta where he repaired and cleaned guns. More recently, people knew him as a wheeler dealer around the Mentone area.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam as a sharp shooter and received a Purple Heart Medal as well as other medals. He rode with the Jester Riding Club of Peru for charities for children and other benefit rides and always collected tabs for Riley's Children Hospital. He had a giving heart and wanted to help others.
Survivors include his companion, Sharlene Faye Ross, Mentone; two daughters, Balinda Jo Vasquez, California, and Lisa Ann Green; four brothers: Gene Boggs, Muncie; Virgil (and spouse Joyce) Bradley, Wellston, Ohio; Sam (and spouse Terry) Green, Fort Wayne; three sisters: Dixie Coleman, Fort Wayne; Dorothy Williams and Lorrie (and spouse Gary) Trebby, all of Wellston, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
