Mortie Shepherd, 97, of 636 W. CR 900S, Claypool, went home to be with the Lord at 7:20 a.m. May 11, 2008, dying at his residence in Claypool.

He was born July 26, 1910, in David, Ky., to Lewis and Susan Watson Shepherd. In January 1933, he married Lola Allen, who died May 6, 1987.

He was a coal miner in Kentucky, and a resident of Kosciusko County since 1985. He was a member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake, and United Mine Workers for 67 years.

Surviving are three sons: Edgal Shepherd, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Lewis Wedstel (and spouse Patty) Shepherd, Claypool; and Columbus (and spouse Janet) Shepherd, Warsaw; four daughters: Irene Manns, Opal Arnett and Madeline Hopkins, all of Claypool; and Ruby (and spouse Bill) Crothers, Paintsville, Ky.; two brothers, Richard (and spouse Kathleen) Shepherd, Waddy, Ky., and Oakie (and spouse Cassie) Shepherd, Maytown, Ky.; a sister, Bertha Prater, Inez, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery, Prestonsburg.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky.
