NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — Miriam A. Nowlin, Newburyport, Mass., formerly of Leesburg, died Oct. 21, 2017.
She was born Dec. 5, 1918, to Peter T. and Grace Klemos in Battle Creek, Mich. She was the beloved wife of Frank E. Nowlin, Battle Creek, who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her were two sisters, Athene K. Gawthrop and Cleo (Babe) Van Patten; a brother-in-law, Marshall W. Nowlin; and a sister-in-law, Mary Fowler.
She is survived by nieces Patricia Gawthrop Appenzeller, Mary Catherine Fowler, Marsh Nowlin Engelhardt and Linda Nowlin Lagerstrom; and nephews Peter T. Gawthrop, Jeffery W. Nowlin, Stephen L. Nowlin and Marshall Nowlin Jr.
Miriam led a rich life, enjoying many years gazing out of her lovely Newburyport home on to the Merrimac River. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She was fortunate enough to cruise on the luxury ocean liner Queen Mary and fly on the supersonic Concorde with Frank.
Every day she counted her blessings by the little things in life. She was strong in her faith, a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she volunteered on the Altar Guild. She was an avid reader and a whiz at Crypt A Quote and other crossword puzzles.
Her greatest gift and joy was sharing her wonderful sense of humor and her zest for life with friends and family, and everyone. Her heart was big, and she was a generous supporter of many charities, including Habitat for Humanity and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). She was deeply loved by many and passed peacefully in the arms of dear friends.
Special thanks to the amazing Beacon Health Hospice team and the staff where she lived at Atria of Merrimack Place.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in the Saint Anna’s Chapel at 166 High St., Newburyport.
