NAPPANEE – Mattie Schmucker, 88, of LuAnn Nursing Home, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 7:05 p.m. April 29, 2011, in Elkhart General Hospital. She was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Lagrange County, to Noah S. and Elizabeth Glick Frye. On March 18, 1943, in Warsaw, she married Melvin J. Schmucker, who died April 28, 2008. Moving to the Nappanee area from the Topeka area in 1956, she was a homemaker and a member of Old Order Amish Church. Surviving are four sons: Robert (and spouse Freida) Schmucker, Milford; Harley Wayne (and spouse Linda) Schmucker, Anderson; Jerry Lee (and spouse Sarah Ellen) Schmucker, Nappanee; and Marvin Ray (and spouse Cathy) Schmucker, Peru; two daughters, Joan (and spouse Mervin Jay) Weaver and Rosetta (and spouse Devon) Troyer, all of Nappanee; 41 grandchildren; and 91 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, four grandsons, four great-grandchildren, two brothers and a sister. Services were at 9:30 a.m. today at the Jerry Schmucker residence, 6044 W. CR 1350N, with Bishop Eli Lehman and Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial was in West Union Cemetery.
