NORTH MANCHESTER - At Wednesday's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council approved the town's 2024 budget on second reading, and, following a temporary suspension of the rules, third reading.
For the sake of time, the budget was approved in this meeting so it can be reviewed by the Department of Local Government Finance through Gateway.
In new business, the council approved design engineering contracts with Jones and Henry for South Market Street sewer and water line relocations. These relocations must occur before the county's bridge reconstruction project in approximately 14 months.
Police Chief Jim Kirk was granted permission to place an order for a new police vehicle from Andy Mohr Ford. The local dealerships are now taking orders for vehicles that will be constructed in spring 2024.
In other business:
• Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford reported a town docket of $599,392.29 and a utilities docket of $214,620.01.
• Chris Harrison of Commonwealth Engineers spoke on one of the town's grant applications that was submitted in late September.
• Alex Downard, of Imagine One85, voiced support for the downtown revitalization planning grant the town is pursuing from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 1.
